Can You Spot the Difference? Trivia!

Check out these two photos. Can you see the difference in them?

Second question: can you tell me the two things this gadget was most often used for?

(Janet, I'm sure you know!)

  1. I can't spot the different, but I'd say it was used for whipping cream.--Jane

  2. Good guess. I think this has flummoxed everyone--or they're just busy today.

It could have been used for cream but there was something else that is commonplace today that women used to make at home in small batches because it would need refrigeration.

I'll give a hint--the difference is in the glass pitcher.

  3. Hi Susanne, I have been busy today and forgot all about this. I can't tell the difference, either. One of the pictures doesn't enlarge, so I couldn't look at it close up. It's probably not, but I would guess a butter churn.

  5. In the second picture the handle is higher. But what could it have been used for? Whipping cream, mixing cake batter? But that wouldn't have required refrigeration (well the cream would but not the cake batter), making butter but I always thought butter churns had paddles and this definitely looks more like a modern day mixer...so what was it used to make? Makes a pretty good riddle! tm

  6. Thew difference is that in one picture the pitcher's spout is broken. In the second picture, it isn't. I bought the first one on eBay for a low price, not realizing it was damaged. Last week I found the exact same pitcher at a junk shop, in perfect condition! What luck.

This little beater/mixer was used to beat eggs but also was often advertised as a mayonnais maker. Women used to make their own mayonnaise--I used to do it too and still have my recipe. It's very simple--eggs, oil and vinegar basically.
