The Pantry Cupboard

A peek inside:

I am almost finished organizing the new cupboard in my kitchen. Take a look:

I still have some work to do--all the big canning pots are not in place yet, so there will be more sorting to do as I find space for them. But goodness, all this space is so nice.

Now I have all my cooking things in one area, close to the stove and counter space. The wooden drawers are from a treadle sewing machine base we got at a yard sale for $1. There was no machine in it and the wood cabinet was not in good condition, but these little drawers are just perfect for storing spices and small kitchen tools and knives:

Aren't the drawer pulls beautiful? They're made of carved wood. We will remove the rest of the cabinet from the iron stand and use the stand as the base for an outside table, so we got good mileage from our dollar.

  1. Ok, Odd comment left above! I love the little drawers. I have two old treadle sewing machines. One I made into a table just using the base. The top was a mess. The other is the one I learned to sew on and Kate has it in her room.
Please let me know if you received my letter. I'm thinking of you two.

  2. I have drawers from old sewing machines, too. I love them. I also have an old iron stand and someday, when we get the time, I want to make a table with it, too.

  3. Odd comment removed :-) , Cathy. Spammers have found me unfortunately, so I might have to add that "word verification" thingie to keep them out. So far, I've just deleted their posts.

I haven't received your letter yet. Do you remember when you mailed it? I'll be on the lookout for it.

Janet, I was going to take the treadle cabinet to a consignment auction, but as I was searching for bakets t put the spices in, it occurred to me to use the drawers. Serendipity! I have another base too, so both will become tables soon.

  4. What I want is a larger -- much larger -- pantry to store my canned and packaged food!!!

  5. I have a root cellar, gigi, so all the home-canned food, potatoes, pumpkins, etc go out there. We don't buy much packaged food. I remember my mother's pantry closet at the house they moved to when Dad retired though--it was a treasure trove for her, and so helpful as they got older.

  9. Hey Granny Sue!

Those drawers are just to cute! I love the handles! You sure do have a lot of room with your new pantry closet. I really need to reorganize my kitchen. It's a complete mess.

  10. Cute little drawers. I love reusing things from days gone by. And I love the wooden pulls, too.
Wish I had a root cellar. They aren't common her because the land is so flat.
