Storytellers Retreat, Post 3: Windows

A walk around Sistersville during the day and again at night to see many of the lovely stained, leaded and curved glass windows. There are many more than I was able to capture during my stay:

Like the lovely church, with its windows lit at night...

A close-up of the rose window.

Then there was this former bank building with its many panes of colored glass:

and another at night.

Many homes sported turrets and cupolas, some with curved glass like this one:

Here and there a stunning little window showed the artistry of the glass artist and the brickmason.

The home of the Wells Inn owner has many beautifyl stained glass features. I was getting pretty wet by this point since it was raining so this is the only photo I took of their home. But I wish I had had time to take more.

  4. I love these kinds of architectural details, Barbara--sometimes I think they really knew more about what made a house than the builders of today. The quality of materials, the attention to small details, use of shapes and art details are just fascinating to me.

  5. Liz, maybe next March all the sisters can come to SisterFest and see the town firsthand :)

  6. I wish I could find windows like that for my house, Joy. I have one or two neat windows--one is an arched church window in purple and gold slag glass, another came out of a steakhouse, and two others are small gold and clear panes. The only one actually put in as a window is the church window, and it's now enclosed in the log room. I need a light on it to show its beauty, really.
