In the Mountains of West Virginia, Part 3: Beartown

One of the field trips we took during our week of writing was a visit to Beartown State Park. This park was developed on land purchased with funds provided by the Nature Conservancy and a large donation from the Polan family to honor their son Ronald Keith Neal. Neal often visited the area before he was deployed and later died in Vietnam. This young man in always on my mind as I walk through the haunting trails and rocks of Beartown.

  2. How lovely to be memorialized in a beautiful and protected piece of land. Amazing sculptural shapes! Is it limestone?
