Grunt Work

Literally. We wanted one thing out of the garage, and we needed to put one thing in, and we've been working three hours to do it.

Our garage is like most people's--full of everything except vehicles. Our house has no basement and no attic, and that means limited storage space. I bought a metal garage a few years ago, assuming I could park my car in there in bad weather. What was I thinking? It was bad enough before I retired, but after we started selling, Lordy did the stuff accumulate! So today was the start of a cleanout and organizing campaign which will probably take another 6 hours or so to complete. It won't get done today, since I have a program to get ready for, but we certainly made a good dent in it this morning. The pics are just a small part of what got moved out so we could move it back in. And chairs? You have no idea. Apparently I like chairs. A lot. Some of them are heading for a weekend sale coming up this month in town. We are hoping to set up a booth there, our first time at a yard-sale type event, but maybe we can clear out some backlog and some other industrious person will take them on.

The photos don't show the tables, shelves, beds, cabinets, dressers, and all sorts of other stuff out there. It was hot, thankless work since we've been having temps in the upper 80's this week. But it feels good to figure out what we have, what needs to get worked on first, and what was a bad idea and needs to go to a sale, thrift shop or on the burn pile.

Now on to finishing up plans for that program...

  1. Wow, you win in the way too much stuff to get fixed up for sale non-contest. I am working my way through 20+ chairs and misc other stuff besides all the regular stuff that needs to be cleaned, written up and put in. Never ending.

  2. Joy, I'm a piker compared to a lot of other dealers, apparently. I've talked to people with buildings full, barns full and even a second house full! It boggles my mind. But I am officially not buying any more furniture for a while...I think...you know how that is, a good deal comes along and you can't pass it up! But I really need to stick with not buying, or only buying items in perfect condition because I will be a long time just working through what I already have.

  3. I started tackling the pile of construction debris that's been outside my porch door covered by a tarp since the snow started. Making progress, and salvaging some lumber, but what a mess...now I have several smaller piles instead of one big one!
