Move and Move Again: Booth Work

72°f/21°C, cloudy, fog. .3" of rain yesterday,  following heavy storms Thursday night, so we have finally got enough to really soak the gardens. Expecting a high of 88 today.

Added this old phonograph to our Ravenswood booth. It plays 78s and is hand-cranked.

The past 2 days have been dominated by booth work. First, we moved out of the booth we just rented in mid-June, because the hours were just too limited. We were hopeful because the concept of an art/music/vintage store right in the middle of town seemed like it could be successful, but the owners decided to only be open Thursday-Sunday. That might still have worked but the hours open (11-6 Th-F, 12-6 Sat, and 12-4 Sun) were just not enough. Add to that the fact that they closed whenever it suited them, sometimes for a whole day on on of the supposedly open days...well, you can see how that impacts their vendors' ability to sell. I like the owners very much, and wish them well, but it wasn't going to work for us, so we pulled out quickly, before you lost too much money.

The sideboard, all moved in.

We stopped to pick up Larry's truck (fixed, hurrah!), then we drove to our Ravenswood location and moved in the sideboard we bought Sunday. That emptied the van, and having both vehicles simplified the moving out process. Then a stop for lunch with friends at Shari's place.  There is nothing as rejuvenating as a leisurely meal and coffee and lively conversation! One of the sillier topics was people we had known or heard of with names that were, um, a bit off- color. We laughed so hard, but those poor people who had to go through life with names like Harry Butts and Bud Aiken! Both real local names, I assure you, and there were much worse.

Fortunately, packing up is a lot easier than setting up! We were loaded and done in an hour. We  were able to put almost all of the stuff from that small space into our Ripley booth, because sales there have been very good this month. It was a busy day, but it was good to get that work done. And here is something funny: I had taken a pipe rack and humidor from the Ripley booth to the new place, and when moving all those things back in, the pipe rack went right back into it's original spot--- and sold within an hour!

Oops, forgot to move the pack of wipes before taking the photo!

Yesterday we moved the little chest of drawers ( often called Chester Drawers on the local Facebook Marketplace!) into our Ripley booth, did a little more tidying up work there, then moved on the Ravenswood to restock. It was another full day, but we shouldn't have much work to do at either place for a week or two, depending of course on what might sell in the meantime.

Trying to roughly color coordinate the shelves.

Cobalt is a popular color in glass but has moved slowly recently. Maybe it's more of a winter thing?

This little suitcase sold within a couple hours of bringing it in. It was in remarkable condition, especially on the inside which was done in deep blue satin. So pretty.

I might just gave to keep these little juice glasses. That soft yellow really appeals to me. And Larry has broken all but two of our current ones. He doesn't mean to of course, but he is hard on delicate glass.

Oops again, left Jesus in the fruit bowl! I will have to go in and move Him when we go back to town.

Stacking is one way to get a lot in a small space. Table over trunk, shelf on table. The little yellow cabinet thst was in this spot sold the other day.

Today I plan to rest up. The gardens are fine, the grass is cut, and while we are beginning to get a lot of tomatoes, there is no canning to do right this minute. I finished my most recent book and have started on a Peter Mayle mystery which I am enjoying very much so far. I think reading, tea, and maybe baking something will be my to-do list for today.

  1. We keep accumulating lemons and I keep thinking I should bake something to use some of them up. We both love the Lemon Sugar Cookie Bars but we've had them about three times recently.
