That was before I went to college and worked full time. Now I'm down to about 6, I think, and wishing I still had all those others. But perhaps in time I can add them back again.

Amy, I think Matthew has it--Cardinal de Richlieu certainly is very like it. The only difference seems to be the fragrance--the Cardinal is not described as having a fragrance as strong as my rose. Perhaps it's the difference in soil/environment?Granny Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01129064020727041161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-63700049048787295082009-05-29T21:06:45.754-04:002009-05-29T21:06:45.754-04:00Wow, these are great pictures! I think the old timey purple rose that you have is the Cardinal de Richelieu Rose.

You just can't get a good newer hybrid rose these days. I bought Shirley a purple rose bush a few years ago and planted it at my parents house (it is a custom to buy rose bushes or tree's and plant them on a loved one's property, and they name the rose bush after you...Mom and Dad have two rose bushes named Matthew & Shirley right as you enter their front yard). Anyway, that purple rose is as pretty as can be but doesn't have one speck of smell in it.

You just can't beat an old timey rose for scent. Mom has several different varieties that I love. They have all kinds of little old stickery thorns on them but oh do they ever smell good.

MatthewMatthew Burnshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02625103538582649633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-90595088160390789122009-05-29T20:51:06.683-04:002009-05-29T20:51:06.683-04:00Beautiful. I envy your blues--all my roses and irises are yellow here. Yellow is my least favourite colour, but that's what I inherited with this house! So I keep planting, and eventually will have all the colours my way...I hope!

Enjoy your flowers, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!Susan at Stony Riverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10385202649291774852noreply@blogger.com
