I have no idea what the temperature was this morning. Warm, muggy, overcast, those things I know. But I never looked at the actual temperature.
The power went off last evening around 9pm, and didn't come back on until 9:30 am. Not a real problem, just inconvenient...and hot. The humidity has been through the roof this week, so last night was not pleasant sleeping conditions. Still, I slept pretty soundly. Actually I have slept better the last 3 nights than I have since getting my knee done, so progress!
Thankfully the electricity was back on in just enough time for me to take a shower before running out the door for my pedicure appointment. Derek had just arrived to help Larry unload the riding mower from the truck, and all I had time for was a wave as I drove off, wet hair and all.
But now I have pretty toesies again. I know it seems inexplicable to most men, and for years it seemed a silly thing to me too. I mean, I could cut my own nails, right? And put polish on them if I wanted? These days, though, it hurts my hip joints like crazy to do them, and my hands and eyes are not up to doing a nice neat job of it. Often I cut to the quick, and that hurts! And bleeds too.
So I have caved, finally, and truth be told, I love the pampering. I am, honest to God, the lowest maintenance thing around here and always have been. I think it's time for me to coddle myself a bit. I even get my hair cut a few times a year, instead of chopping it off myself as I have always done. My hair appreciates it too...and I get to listen to Amanda the hairdresser who should seriously consider a job in stand-up comedy.
After toes, I had lunch with a friend, picked up our weekly fresh milk and butter from Maddie the Milk Maid (our nickname for her), came home and picked up my book. Four hours later, I have almost finished the book and am thinking about an early bedtime. I'll be back in the groove tomorrow, but today was a nice day off.
...your weather sounds awful.
ReplyDeleteHot and humid is the worst combination..then no power...yak. Awesome that you had a nice off day.
ReplyDeleteTo a nice day off and being pampered!!
ReplyDeleteI sat on the balcony yesterday and read about farm animals :-)
My nails are hopeless, btw, as is my hair. But things could be worse, right.
Your toes look great💗 and the fact that you're sleeping better is also great! ( hopefully that will continue).
ReplyDeleteWe had a 2 hour power outage and believe it or not the reason was that a bird had managed to electrocute itself (and thereby shutting off power.)
Aw, poor little bird! Pretty sure ours was a tree falling somewhere. All this rain has softened the ground dangerously.
DeleteVery pretty, from a woman who has yet to have a pedicure (or even manicure) from a professional. Yours do represent your feminine side, your accomplishments having been set aside for a few hours! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI never did either, but now it will be part of my routine.
DeleteI know of some men who have got their feet attended to and quite enjoyed it. Cutting my own toenails goes a little easier now that I have a smaller midriff.
ReplyDeleteLarry gets his done at the VA now because he has ingrown toenails, and diabetes. Foot care is very important in his case. He enjoys it too!
DeleteNow that I'm a woman of a certain age with nasty feet I go to a podiatrist to cut the toenails. I don't worry about the polish -- hardly anyone ever sees the toes. But my days of being a contortionist are over!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! It kills my knees and my hips. I did it easily 5 years ago, but now? Better for someone who can trim them properly to do it. I wear sandals all summer except when in the garden, so my toes are on display!
DeleteIt's been awhile since I've indulged myself with a pedicure. Actually haven't done it since we moved to NH 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI have decided to do this every 2 months, Marcia. A small treat for me. I don't do manicures since my hands are always in dirt, water or paint.
DeleteI've never had a manicure or a pedicure. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it is always good to take some time off to relax and treat ourselves.
ReplyDeleteEveryone deserves a day off. And a pedicure!
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy to hear that you've been sleeping more comfortably! I hope that trend continues.
