Wordless Wednesday: Inside

63°f/16°C, clear.

Since the house is mostly tidied up, I thought I better take photos!

The log room:

The kitchen:

Tried out a panoramic view:

The living room:

I know, lots of stuff.  Some of it is "just visiting" and will move on to a booth. But most of it stays. No minimalist here! For years I couldn't have pretty things because we couldn't afford them. Now I can, and I love it. The grandkids love it too.

As for after we are gone, the boys know to just call an auction company or estate agent.  One good thing: we have little storage, no basement or attic, so what you see is pretty much what we have. And very little of it is plastic. Most has some resale value, at least.

    1. Thanks, Tom. Like most of my collections, it was accidental.

  2. I think it's nice that you have displayed all of the things you like and can enjoy them.

  3. I adore your home. Being a minimalist is overrated! As a newlywed we rented a house with a stove just like yours. I loved that stove and wish I had it today!

    1. I had my first Tappan in a rental too. I bought it from a used appliance place. I sure missed it later and hunted for one like it. My son found one for me!

  5. I think your decorating style qualifies as eclectic. Didn't quite understand the layout of the living room. Is the woodstove in the middle with no flue?

    1. Yep, definitely eclectic. The stove is actually a gas stove, placed where the wood stove used to be. The idea of the sunken area came from houses built around us in Virginia in the 70s, but also to allow the heat from the stove to be at floor level. The boys loved this space when they were young. I would like to take it out, as we seldom use those hard wood couches these days, but the grandkids and my sons howled when I mentioned the idea!

  7. I am very close to the covet level on your Tiffany shades. What a beautiful house. I tell my kids to just call in the local auction guy. It is pretty common around here, especially where families are spread across the continent and can't pre sort.
The one thing I cherish and will hold onto are my grandmother' s Lalique china dishes. They go to the granddaughter. If she needs to sell them, I will not know about it.

  8. I need to clean and throw out!!! We have a tiny cellar... oh I need time (and power) I am so tired these days. 48F only.
    Your home looks great!

  9. You have just the kind of home I love. It's warm and cozy, the kind where you feel comfortable snugging in with a good book and warm conversation. I'm no minimalist, either, so I can relate. But you know, it all depends on how you display things as to whether it looks crowded and junky or just full and warm. This is full and warm and so very nice! Still room to "see" things. Speaking of which, is that Fiesta I spy in the kitchen? Too small to tell but I love your jug/pitcher collection. I have a small one -- yours is great! (And the log room! Sigh!)

  10. Your house looks very inviting. My daughter advises me to keep all my stuff and she’ll worry about it later. Quite wisely, she says, “When you’re dead you won’t even know if I send it all to the dump, so enjoy it now!” As Michelle says minimalism is overrated!

    1. She's right. I told the boys the same, I won't be here so do what they want. I have very few things that were passed down, mostly just photos and letters. The rest are things I enjoy but I don't expect the family to keep them.

  11. First, what great tall ceilings you have! Second, no chimney for the stove? Interesting. But certainly practical in the middle of things! Loved seeing all your arrangements of things, beauty everywhere!

    1. Barb, we used to have the wood stove there, but the current one is a gas fireplace. Being below floor level keeps more heat down low.
I grew up with high ceilings, so when I was drawing plans for this house ( on graph paper, our only blueprint!) I knew I wanted high ceilings.
