55°f/12.8°C, light clouds after yesterday's rain.
Not much to say about yesterday, except maybe what didn't happen! I did get some of the Christmas totes out and began sorting them, but it was really just a start. Lots more to do. I packed up four Ebay sales, but didn’t do any more listings. The bulbs did not get planted, and we didn’t go to Charleston as planned to hear our friend Pete Kosky playing. Heavy rain moved in and the hour drive to get there just didn't appeal.
So, I am still looking through past photos so I can clean up my poor phone, which is fast running out of storage. Here's a few I turned up that I have not yet posted.
In the Hoosier cabinet, I keep a selection from the cellar, just for convenience.
I have been noticing a lot of recalls on pre-prepared meals and deli salads. Have you noticed this? I guess the only time I buy such things are when I pick up a rotisserie chicken. The most recent recall I saw was for pasta salads. I suppose, as prepared foods become more popular, we will see more recalls, and more outbreaks of illnesses from them. Think I will just keep cooking at home. Yesterday was spaghetti with our own canned pasta sauce and ground venison from the freezer, with some of last summer's green beans. So easy and so satisfying.
I am so angry at the way the needy are being used as a pawn in this budget fiasco. It is beyond belief that it has come to this. I would gladly donate some of our home-canned foods, but food pantries won't take it. Which is kinda funny, considering that we have never gotten sick from our food, yet the pantries will take Kroger's stuff! Ah well, such is the world we live in.
Wishing you all the best as we all roll crazily along!

Yes, I know the memory difficulty with all those photos! However I thought I could make an album, save it, and then delete the photos...only to find out I then had an empty album. For a few I was able to retrieve them on the iPad under "recently deleted" but I didn't find out in time for lots. Thank heavens I'd posted many of them into blogs, so that's another source of archives (I hope it remains here!)
ReplyDeleteI love the doggie pile! You have so much good food there it is a real shame you cannot donate any of it. We, as a nation, have lost our soul.
ReplyDeleteRotisserie chicken is about the only thing like that that I will buy although I will sometimes purchase frozen entrees like meat pies.
ReplyDeleteWow! I just read yesterday's post and was amazed at the size of your family. I was the oldest girl, too, but there were only 4 of us (2 boys and 2 girls). I did a lot of neighborhood babysitting back then for 50 cents an hour! I suppose helping at home - you didn't get paid so I was lucky.

ReplyDeleteI tend to control the pictures on my phone by loading them onto my computer, some for blogging purposes; others just to keep......then once on my computer I delete them from my phone. Doing that for years has kept me from ever having storage issues on my phone. I have noticed more recalls, the sad part of it is....seems to be a lot of repeats in the particular food item and or company which makes me stir clear of that company going forward. You're right that clown is scary, sorta makes me think of those scary dolls that used to be in movies. I've been enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list to catch up; as it's been too many months since I've blogged. Feels good to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteI love how your post mixes everyday life with such vivid, personal details. It really feels like stepping into your day. The photos, from the dog pile to the pink beauty at the restaurant, are charming, and I appreciate your thoughts on home cooking versus recalls; it’s a reminder of how satisfying and safe homemade meals can be.

...Well honey it ain't your money
ReplyDelete'Cause baby I got plenty of that
I love you for your pink Cadillac~Bruce Springsteen
Great photos. Good idea to post them and clean them off your phone. I love the dog pile! I buy more of the pre-prepared stuff since my husband passed away than I used to, but most of it just isn't good. It really is too bad you can't donate homemade stuff. Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI bet that if you simply offered it for free, you would find takers.
ReplyDeleteI cook everyday and occasionally buy a rot. chicken, as we do like them. No freezer meals here, unless I make/freeze them. My coworkers used to poke fun at me for cooking everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt's ironic that food pantries won't take home-canned food when there are so many recalls, right? Sigh. But I like Debby's suggestion: if you offer it elsewhere, people will probably gladly take it!
ReplyDeleteI do hope they'll figure out the shutdown shenanigans soon...
That's a lovely picture of you!! Also a great picture of the pink Cadillac! My DH was reading your blog over my shoulder
ReplyDelete( annoying!) and was admiring it too.
Hi there! I'm stopping by because I see your blog on the list for NaBloPoMo. I love the photos (especially the dog pile!)
ReplyDeleteSo you live in West Virginia? I'm currently in Florida but we're thinking of moving in a few years. I was initially interested in West Virginia, but then tentatively rejected it because of the weather (it seems like there are a lot of overcast days?) Maybe I need to read more of your posts- I'm seeing you have a whole category for WV.
I’ve been reading about the open Mike in Spencer. I didn’t realize that was where you had preformed.
ReplyDeletePlease don’t ever stop blogging. Your varied life style is so interesting to others. Thank you. Charmaine, UK
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see you looking so happy in your storytelling picture! And the picture of the three dogs made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteThe spin on the shutdown is terrible. Don't these people have a bit of care for others, people who are hungry? Children? It just breaks my heart. I would love to see you in storytelling action!
ReplyDeleteThese are great photos! Although the clown is not my favorite. I'm glad you were cool with him "joining" you for dinner! That dog pile is adorable.
