18°f/-7.8°C, freezing rain. Quickly warmed to 3q°, still raining/ freezing, messy.
Someone posted this on Facebook, West Virginia snow preparation! Even Mothman needed egs, milk, bread and toilet paper!
This morning:
What an underwhelming storm so far. I stayed up until midnight, waiting for the storm to start, but all we had at that point was a light covering. During the night we got a few inches, then early this morning the freezing rain started. We ended up with only 4" of snow instead of the 12-15 predicted, and now the icy rain is packing it down and coating everything with ice. Yuck.
I am grateful really that it was not the very deep snow predicted. This icy stuff is supposed to continue, or may turn to rain, then maybe more snow tonight. A right mess! The potential for power outages still exists, of course, if this freezing rain continues.
The birds have been very busy at the feeders, and I am glad to see so many. So far I have seen Cardinals, pine siskens, snowbirds, titmice, nuthatches, chickadees, purple finches, and an Eastern bluebird. Not in the numbers we used to have, but still more than I have seen in a long while.
A slow start for us today! I need to make breakfast, so I'd best get hopping!

We didn't get as much as predicted either. The roads are awful today though due to the ghastly temps. Hopefully you don't get much of that icy mixture!
ReplyDelete...it's not underwhelming here!
ReplyDeleteActually glad your storm has been under-whelming! We have a foot and expecting another several inches.
ReplyDeleteYesterday/Saturday's snow turned to freezing drizzle overnight--we have layers of slushy half-melted stuff with a crust forming on top. Keeping the wood fire burning, electric still on. Sounds like at least one more day of mixed storms here. Having a well-stocked pantry and home-canned goods on the basement shelves is reassuring.
ReplyDeleteMy son got about 2" down by Bristol and my daughter was over 8 this morning near Hagerstown
ReplyDeleteWe've had an abundance of birds today, many of the ones you mentioned. I've never heard of the snowbird. Would love to see one though.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have more or less escaped. I think we have too here in Eastern Ontario. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteIt is still snowing here. We have easily a foot of snow on the ground, but scarcely catastrophic.
ReplyDeleteWe've already got all the whelm you could ever want here with more before it's over. Fingers crossed we don't lose power - hence water - since keeping everyone watered, fed, and sheltered is what keeps me going. Very sorry about the freezing rain and ice in your neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Mothman. This Christmas I got hubby more stickers of all kinds of Mothman. Very fun. He'll enjoy this cartoon as well. Much thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove your deck!!!!
Underwhelming snow are two of my favorite words when used together!
ReplyDeleteLimited snow here in central KY, then ice and more snow. *sigh* What a mess.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely assortment of birds at your feeders!!!
