65f/18.3C, light overcast and strong breezes.
Our Daisy left us last night. She was old for a yellow Lab, almost 18, but has always been healthy, even though she only had one kidney, apparently born that way. She had slowed down a lot in the past year, and particularly in the past month, Then the other day she didn't want treats, odd for her. Last night she laid down in her favorite spot, and this morning she was gone.
So poor Larry had to bury yet another dog, the hardest part of loving these lovable beasts. Over the years we have said goodbye to some good ones, most living, like Daisy, beyond their expected years.
Still, that doesn't make it any easier when they die.
Daisy was one of those quiet, undemanding dogs. She didn't clamor for attention even when she was young. She scared visitors when she'd hackle up and growl, and we had to reassure them that she truly was a sweetheart and never hurt anyone. She actually loved company, although she wasn't crazy about visiting dogs. She knew her job as protectress of this place, keeping the wildlife away, but never chased any critters past our property line
Even in death, she tried not to cause any trouble. She was a good girl, and I am going to miss her deeply.

I'm so sorry. You'll remember her and miss her for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Daisy's passing. It's never easy to lose a pet as they are a part of our family. Sounds like she and you were lucky to find each other.
ReplyDeleteNothing like the love of a dog. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteSo very sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing a fur baby.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss of such a beloved pet. May she romp in the afterlife of dogs, wherever that may be, or at least remain in your hearts as such a dear friend.
ReplyDelete...I'm sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, I know how special she was. Sending lots of love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, Daisy.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. My Brother called me Monday. His only 7-year old cat, Pepper, was found dead at a neighbor and one of their rabbits had passed, too. . I only watch cat-videos and still kinda "mourn" about the mouse (she was super-clever) I lost at age 14. She was nearly 3 when she left me. No more pets for me, it hurts too much. Hugs from here.
ReplyDeleteShe seemed like a gem. I think she had a good life and a good parting as far as partings go anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh Sue, I'm so sorry. She sounds like the most wonderful dog, such a faithful and sweet friend for oh, so many years. That healing takes awhile. Be gentle with yourselves. Loving an animal is like loving a family member -- they ARE family members.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. It's so hard, but yet it's good when they can depart in their own way. Daisy was a very good age, but they always die too young. Their memories live on.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful dog and thankfully had a good life.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry to hear this. I know how intense the pain is, for we lost our 11 year old Golden Retriever in February. Cancer got him, as it does to a great majority of Goldens. While it might have been a little easier if he chose to go on his own, in the end we had to make that decision, which is the most difficult one to make. I wish I could say the pain will fade, but we still grieve our prior Golden who passed away 12 years ago.
ReplyDeleteOur vet sent us the following quote, which I hope in some way may help ease your pain.
“We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan.”
Irving Townsend
I am so sorry for Daisy’s loss. She was such a beautiful girl. Sounds like she was a blessing, and you and Larry to her. Heartfelt hugs, Denise
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this sad news. It always hurts when our 4-legged friends leave us. Lovely photos of Daisy and her legacy carries on forever through your memories.
ReplyDeleteIt's always sad to lose a loved companion pet, especially one as wonderful as Daisy was. Passing in their sleep is a peaceful way to go. Our previous dog Brewster ended his days like Daisy with no real warning other than he kept getting slower and slept a lot more. Hugs to you and Larry. Batsy in Idaho
ReplyDeleteSo sad, sorry to hear of her passing. Labs are the best dogs of all! 18 was a good long life for Daisy.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Daisy. Sounds like she had a wonderful life with you.
ReplyDeleteShe did it her way, good old Daisy! Sweet doggie!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteThe animals that share our homes become such constant companions of our days and leave a large empty place when they leave us. It may be some comfort that Daisy didn't have to endure a last ride to the vet to be 'put down'--instead passing gently at home.
