It was probably romanticized over the years, and lost the historical references.

A friend wrote me off-line to confirm that Dr. Musick's version is the best one, and that the book Haunted West Virginia is not a good source for this or any other story. I;ll take his word and save my money. I won't be adding that one to my collection or citing it again.Granny Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01129064020727041161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-40007055357985509482008-05-10T17:23:00.000-04:002008-05-10T17:23:00.000-04:00Great story. And more like honest to goodness folklore. I have a lot of local ghost story books, all stories centered in our area. (I have to admit though, I am careful not read them at night if I am alone.)Phill https://www.blogger.com/profile/07087113754217015743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-89044666918586457772008-05-10T11:19:00.000-04:002008-05-10T11:19:00.000-04:00Let's go watch for it together! When I drive from J...Let's go watch for it together!
When I drive from Jonesborough to Chuckey, there's a particularly misty corner that my friend Steve said was the site of an accident in which several died. Last year was too hot and dry for any mists, of course. The Nolachuckey River was a sad, tiny trickle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-35210234617162747882008-05-09T20:39:00.000-04:002008-05-09T20:39:00.000-04:00I love old ghost stories.
