I remember once leaving potatoes in a basket that got covered with leaves or hay and they grew in there. there was a good bit of dirt on the potatoes, and they rooted through the bottom of the basket I think. It was a long time ago, maybe 30 years or more.

When we cleaned out the potato bin this year, I suggested that Larry dump the old potatoes over the hill and cover them with the used bedding from the chicken house. They're growing like crazy so i expect a few new potatoes from this makeshift patch too.Granny Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01129064020727041161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-15078804284597303292009-06-02T23:58:10.404-04:002009-06-02T23:58:10.404-04:00Good photo. Ours were up and growing before all the wet weather, so that's probably why they're okay. And the soil on this hill dries fast too. I hope your new planting does well.Granny Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01129064020727041161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-34449439457782438492009-05-31T15:55:59.648-04:002009-05-31T15:55:59.648-04:00I love new potatoes. We tilled up the first planting and planted new rows, but only a few are showing through the ground. We planted red potatoes, too.Janet,https://www.blogger.com/profile/17796999156668844943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-1213354054280463972009-05-31T14:54:05.156-04:002009-05-31T14:54:05.156-04:00It is good, but as you know it doesn't happen with...It is good, but as you know it doesn't happen without a lot of sweat. Mostly Larry's this year-- I did the greenhouse and helped plant, hoed once or twice but after that he's been doing it. Now my part is dealing with it as it comes into the kitchen, which is really the fun part.Granny Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01129064020727041161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2634969979683449053.post-77561404117435642882009-05-31T14:41:52.025-04:002009-05-31T14:41:52.025-04:00It all looks delicious!
