Allegheny Echoes: The Final Day

The week finally came to an end on Friday. I sat in on an afternoon bluegrass jam, and could not resist taking this photo of a young guitar player (note the glasses!). Others in the photo are Bob Lieving on mandolin, one of the Kidd Brothers on guitar, and Homer Hunter on guitar and vocals. Homer sang every day all week, and his voice never seemed to get tired.

The final concert at the Marlinton Opera House featured all the instructors during the week. I love the photo of the Bing Brothers Band; they look almost ghostly onstage, and that seems to symbolize the message of Echoes: passing on the music through generations.

Now these boys can play FAST! Bing Brothers Band.

..and another of the band. Mike Bing on mandolin, Bob Lieving on guitar, Mike Smith on bass, and Tim Bing on banjo.

After the concert there were jams everywhere at the motel. Here Bob Shank plays hammered dulcimer at the corner
where many of the young fiddlers played.

This group played until 5:30am on Saturday morning--the last band standing to greet the day and signal the end of Echoes for another year. I hung with them until 5am, but this old granny had to pack it in. I hated to leave, because then it was over. What a week!
