Poetry Blog is Featured Today

NapoWriMo is featuring my poetry blog today! How cool is that. NaPoWriMo means National Poetry Writing Month. The challenge is to write one poem a day for the entire month of April, since this is National Poetry Month. I managed it in January for A River of Stones, and was fortunate enough to have one of my poems selected for publication in their book Pay Attention (which you can order here).

So I thought maybe I could write a poem a day again this April. So far so good. NaPoWriMo offers a prompt each day; todays is ekphrastic poetry, or poetry about art (art inspired by art). I think I've got some ideas about what to write for that--or I may tweak an older poem and post it. It is good to have sites, like First 50, that provide a jumping off place for writing because sometimes we just get stuck, staring at a blank page. A prompt nudges our minds and gets the ideas flowing and then the words come.

Thanks NaPoWriMo! I appreciate you.

  1. Most Excellent! A few years ago, we set aside April (in our family) as a poetry month. Heather suggested it and we all did it. It was an amazing journey, but I never repeated the poem a day thing again. It's quite difficult.

Your poetry is simmered, strong and storyful. It's good to see you get this recognition.

  2. Thank you, Kate. It is not easy to write one every day--some days I'm just not in a poetry mood, but this exercise helps me find that mood, and it's a good place to be mentally.
