Weekend: Family, Meeting, New Venture

Weekend! And weekend end, sadly. This weekend we had family visiting from out of state, granddaughters and their mom and our oldest grandson. The girls helped me with a flannelboard project I've been working on and their help is going to make this story a standout. We stayed up late talking and got up early to cook breakfast. Good times.

This afternoon was the annual meeting of the WV Storytelling Guild so we drove 2 hours to Beckley for the meeting. Our speaker for the meeting was folklorist Gerry Milnes from Davis & Elkins College, who introduced us to some old-time mountain storytellers via a DVD presentation. His talk was fascinating, ranging from traditional mountain tall tales to tales of witchcraft and ending with humor. Gerry also treated us to some fiddle tunes and the stories of their origin as part of the story swap that ended our day.

I also started a new venture this weekend: selling on eBay. I've never tried this so I'm learning as I go. I listed one item that sold in seven minutes! Think I might have underpriced it? You can look at my listings by clicking on the link to the right. I'm working on clearing out some closet space so what I list will probably be an odd mixture of things.

Now it's late and I really, really need to sleep. I must be getting too old to get by on five hours sleep any more. See you all tomorrow.

  1. What a great weekend you had. How brave to sell on ebay. Curious to see how it goes. One sale already, wow.

  2. We had fun, Joy and it was so good to see the grandkids. Most of them as taller than me now--pat me on the head as they go by. It's interesting to listen to them now--they have opinions and ideas and we can discuss topics almost like adults. I am looking forward to where they go in their lives; they have so many interests.

  4. Thanks, Barbara! I'll be listing more items soon. The Jadite coffee mugs went fast. I'm testing the water right now to see how this works.

  5. I have one Jadite mug. May I ask what your set went for? I have recently sold a couple of items on EBay . . . but I couldn't see how to create a "store". And you have done that. I think I need some advise. Good luck with your books and your EBAY. May you have fun and profit in your retirement : )

  6. I sold them for 7.99 plus shipping, Nance. I don't really have a "store" on eBay, the link is just to my listings. I don't think, at this point, that I'll do a store. I just don't have the storage space to keep a lot of stuff. I do have more to list over the next few months, and intend to keep it at a steady trickle :) What doesn't sell will probably end up at Goodwill or some other donation place.
