Saw this bridge
And this cathedral
Which was near this museum
which our motel window looked directly out over.
Our youngest son was in a bodybuilding competition here this weekend, and it was the first time I'd been to one of his events.
Anyone want to guess what city we were in?
There is so much variety in my life: one day we are picking wild greens on a quiet country mountain, and a couple days later we are in a major city watching a professional bodybuilder competition.
I was amazed to see so many people in such fit condition in one place--it's stunning, I can tell you. And encouraging.
Today we enjoyed a leisurely trip back, with brunch on the way, and then home to get the firepit going for an evening hot dog roast with another son and his family. This was a simple meal tonight--hot dogs, cantaloupe, strawberries, tortilla chips and salsa, sliced cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, some Pinot Noir, and roasted marshmallows for dessert. Delicious, few dishes and no pots and pans to wash. It was a perfect ending to an interesting and relaxing Mother's Day weekend.
I hope your Mother's Day was a good one with good times and many memories made.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I know where you went, but I cheat! :) Jay and I went there once to see Pattie his sister in a play. It is an interesting place with the industrial history. I was amazed at the buildings that were still covered in black dust, although I imagine by now it has been cleaned off. Love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteTheresa, it's a beautiful city these days. although loss o the steel industry really hurt economically, the city has re-invented itself and now it's as busy as it ever was, and without the black coating from the coal and steel industry. I want to go back and just be a tourist for a weekend. Been there several times storytelling and to the airport, but I've never had the opportunity to stay and enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteYou know, Barbara, that is so true. I love the architecture of old downtowns, but they do ten to look alike.
ReplyDeleteThis was Pittsburgh, in the University area. The city had some bad years but it's pulling out of it and is thriving these days. A lot of arts activity too, which is excellent in my book.
oh, Sue! Once I read "steel" I knew it was Pittsburgh! A day late and a dollar short! That's me!
ReplyDeleteI would have enjoyed that evening meal with you too -- nothing better than a roasted weenie. Can we still say that? We always had weiner roasts, when I was a kid -- weenie roasts. Sounds like the perfect ending to your day.
Funny, Nance, I typed in weenie, and changed it to hot dog because I wondered if anyone knew what it was!
ReplyDeletePittsburg looks like a pretty city. My son just turned down a job in the steel industry there in favor of one here in Edmonton, AB. Now I won't get to see P'burg.
