Finding Gold

Sometimes at the thrift store, you find a mystery box like this, all taped up so the contents and their condition are difficult to see:

I didn't know anyone coming up on a 50th anniversary, but there was something else peeking out under the wedding bells:

A Hall Gold Dot casserole in excellent condition (that's light reflection, not wear, on the gold), along with

A nice creamer and sugar set in yellow luster ware, a pretty Wexford serving bowl

and a Diamond Point lidded ice bucket.

I'm not sure what to do with the two-tier anniversary snack tray, the bell-shaped candy jar and various other items with "50th" writ large upon them. Any suggestions?

  1. List them on ebay? A nice box you found. Love that casserole dish.

  2. That's an idea, Michelle--maybe list them as a group, for a low price. I also thought about donating to a church or senior center; they might have members approaching such an anniversary.

  3. Both ideas are good. I once gave my air popper to my aunt's retirement village when I heard them say that they couldn't make enough for the group with just one (and it was one less thing to move when I went from condo to house). My sister added her punch bowl to my donation, "since you're going anyway" so they can party well!
    You found pretty items!

  6. That was a good mystery box - listing the 50th stuff on e-bay seems like a good idea.

  7. Neat finds. Any Thrifty Linking Parties you recommend? My group so far tends toward the craft links. . . which are also very addictive!
