OLD DECEMBER

by Benjamin F. Leggett
  (photos taken during a December snow in 2010)
With snowy locks December stands

'Mid sleet and storm; his wasted hands
A frosty scepter grasp and hold;

His frame is bent, his limbs are old;

His bearded lips are iced and pale;

He shivers in the winter gale.

Come then, O day of warm heart-cheer,

Make glad the waste and waning year,
While old December shivering goes

To rest beneath the drifted snows!

  4. Lovely photos, Sue! Quite a grim (written) picture of December, but to be honest, February is the one I always worry about.
    Here, our recent 1.5 feet of snow has nearly vanished after 2 very warm days, but it is now very cold again...8F last time I looked. The prediction is cold but open for several days, and I'm beginning to wonder if I have time to fetch more lumber for a project before the next big snow. Such topsy-turvy weather!
    Happy Christmas to you and yours :)
