Small News

We had rain--plenty of rain. Thank goodness! It's been dry for a couple weeks or more in this area, and the gardens were beginning to suffer. It was so pleasant to sit on the porch and watch it storm, then come inside to make popcorn and watch a movie, something we haven't done in quite a while.

Of course rain means the grass is growing so Larry is trying to catch up while at the same time doing some repairs on his truck and getting our late cucumbers in the ground. We're still sorting things from the flea market too, seems to be a task that is never-ending.

I've been painting again. A couple small tables, a washbowl stand, magazine rack--small things that needed to be done, and will make some space in the workroom which as usual is way overcrowded. Will I ever get through the backlog? I am determined to do so, but it's going to take several months.

A couple came by to look at our place. Larry had told them we were thinking of selling. It made me feel strange, I can tell you! I know we will need to move sometime in the next few years and I've been looking at places online but to actually have someone come looking makes it more real than I want right now. I guess I was a little discouraging to this couple, but I need time to get some cleaning out done before I'm ready to say yes, it's for sale. Change in the wind.

Yesterday I cleaned out the fridge, a long-overdue job. I don't think anyone enjoys that! But it made me get some things fixed to eat that would need to be tossed soon. I made stuffed peppers, cabbage, watermelon and kiwi for dinner, the first dinner I've cooked all week. I will be glad to get back to something like a routine but it will be another week before that happens.

And I got back to work on eBay. I had my store on vacation for two weeks since I knew I was going to be away most of the time, and as soon as I turned it back on I had sales. A good thing! I got some new things listed too.

So, nothing exciting to report, just life as usual.

  1. Eventually we're going to have to downsize and move too, but can't face it yet.

  2. Moving? That's a big step. I know I'm just stating the obvious, but...well, it really is a big step.

  3. Sounds like things are moving along quite well for you. Change is always hard. I know we won't keep our small farm forever. It will be hard to let it go, one day.

  4. I know, Quinn, but I am a realist and I know the time is coming. Our lives have changed-we no longer farm, and as we age this place gets harder to maintain. So, looking ahead.

  5. Janet, our downsizing will mostly be getting rid of things bought to paint and re-sell! We don't really have a lot of stuff, though it looks that way because we have few closets, and no attic or basement. So that's a blessing anyway. The outbuildings have lots of stuff bought to re-do, though, so that will be our focus, getting that stuff cleared out. I'm working my way through it, but it will take a lot of work.

  6. I never considered moving until this past year or so, Michelle, when I realized that it would be impossible to stay here if something happened to Larry, as the maintenance is more than I could handle and more than he could do if he was limited physically in any way.

  7. Have moved 29' times and it just was easier than most think!!! Now we live in a two story house that is not good for seniors! Need to downsize but husband has lived here forever almost! If one feels the need to move-the sooner the better!
