Just the Everyday

Nothing exciting to write about today, just the usual goings-on around here.

Sometimes we just don't want to go out. Home is so comfortable and we have so many things to occupy us here that the idea of leaving is not welcome. We almost talked ourselves out of going to Marietta today to restock our booths. But as usual we had a good time, and the booth looks better for our efforts.

Yesterday we stayed busy with several projects. The new thermostat for the gas refrigerator finally came, so we emptied the fridge and laid it down on its side. If you've never tried that little trick, I'm here to tell you a fridge, especially a gas one, is heavy! But we managed it between the two of us and Larry got to work while I went back to work on a dressing table I'm painting.

And of course, it was the wrong thermostat. So we stood the fridge back up and put everything back in it. It is cooling enough if we put 4 gallon jugs of ice in it, using it as a big cooler really--and oddly the freezer has been working fine. But this time the fridge actually seems to be working as it should again. For how long, who knows? Apparently these units can get a bubble in the gas, and laying them on their side can help release the bubble. We're not feeling confident that all is well yet; time will tell. And we may still try to find a thermostat for it. At least the blasted thing has had a good cleaning--again. We cleaned it up last time we went through this, about a month ago, so it wasn't bad.

The snow from the night before melted by mid-afternoon but the day never really warmed up so we continued with mostly indoor tasks. I made a quiche--two of them actually, one being for the freezer--while Larry started work on a new neat old desk we picked up this week. After our mid-day supper I did laundry, packed ebay, and painted all sorts of odds and ends--baskets, mirrors, shelves, etc. It felt good to get through some of the backlog of little pieces waiting on me.

We bought a big primitive storage cabinet last Wednesday (that's it in the photo above), and it was still in the van because we didn't have anywhere to put it, and we planned to take it to Marietta anyway. So this morning we loaded some other odds and ends and hit the road. Now the cabinet is in place, the van is empty, and tomorrow I can get back to painting. Snow is in the forecast again for tonight, so it looks like another inside day.

I added several vintage hand mirrors to the booth today

Usually by now we have garden planted with early spring crops, but this year the ground has been so wet there's no way to get in there. And with Larry's knee surgery less than a month away, gardens are not in the plans this year. It will surely be and odd summer for us.

Doorknobs are consistently good sellers.

I guess that's all the news that isn't from this side of the hill. Stay warm, friends.

  2. Well, this isn't VERY much outside the "everyday," but maybe a bit of peasant news anyway! Since I never heard back from "Tess" on my blog, you are the 2nd winner of a seed packet! Please send me your mailing address by email or twitter DM and tell me whether you'd like the Summer Squash or the Winter Squash.
    Happy Monday! :)

  4. Great! By the way, that was meant to say "pleasant" news, but maybe I was thinking about how I feel when gardening :)
