Another Day in the Neighborhood

56 this morning and light rain, after heavy rain overnight. Everything is getting so green! Larry likes to catch rainwater and this morning his buckets were full and overflowing.

We heard from our granddaughter in Nashville that she had been tested for the virus, and the test was negative. Great joy here! After days of getting all the loose ends tied up, we are finally ready to just stay put. That took longer than expected!

I have yet to convince my husband to get down my little box of Easter decorations. I don't have a lot, but perhaps today he'll get them down. I bought a few things over the past several months that didn't get put up in the tote, so I have put them out here and there. The bunny plate is one of my absolute favorites. I'd seen one online, but found this one in a local flea market for a fraction of the price.

I also found paper eggs from Germany at a thrift. I didn't even know about these eggs until last year, but apparently they have been around for decades.

This isn't actually Easter, but it sure is pretty! It's an early American Pattern Glass butter dish in the Croesus pattern, made by Riverside Glass in the late 1800's. I found the base at a thrift shop, and recently found the top on ebay. I have listed it for sale, but will enjoy it in the meantime.

This morning I ordered garden seeds for plants that we usually buy since we took down our little greenhouse. I don't know how well it will work to start them without a greenhouse, but since we may not be able to go out to get plants, I thought we would try starting them in a hotbed. As soon as it dries out a bit, we'll get that ready.

What did I order? Tomatoes (about 6 varieties, I think), 2 kinds of sweet peppers, stonehead and late flat Dutch cabbage, and some flower seeds. Not a lot but these are the essentials. We have plenty of seeds for the things we normally start from seed in the soil--cucumbers, corn, pumpkin, summer squash, carrots, beets, etc. We picked up onion sets a couple weeks ago. So I think we're set as far as the garden planning goes.

Larry is in his element this morning, planning his next steps on his steps project. The steps to the patio were falling apart and needed to be replaced. He has the spot all dug out now and will pour the footer as soon as the rain lets up. You can see in the background the big stack of bags of mulch, which is also waiting for a dry day or two to get spread.

I spent a little time looking online for toilet paper, since local stores continue to be out of stock and I am not going back to check again. Even online it was not easy to find! There were a lot of people selling some kind of off-brand from China which I was leery of ordering, but I did find some made by Georgia-Pacific in those jumbo rolls used in public restrooms. The price was actually fairly reasonable considering the amount in the package. This morning, that source is out of stock. Which makes me wonder if my order will arrive. We shall see.

Meantime, the spring flowers continue to open, and the grass is beginning to grow. All's right with the natural world, which is reassuring, isn't it? Stay well and safe, my friends.

    1. Thank you, Jenn! You might find a bunny plate like it on ebay :) They aren't too expensive.

  2. I have decided that if we run out of tp I'll set a diaper pail by the toilet & we'll use old rags. People used to have to wash diapers all the time so I think that will work fine in a pinch.....I am hoping though that I won't have to do that.

Love the bunny plate. I think I'll order some seeds as well.

    1. That is a great suggestion! I think my order went through, as Amazon shows it being shipped. Your idea of a makeshift solution is excellent, though. We may all be doing that before long.
