First Daffodils at Last

55 this morning, after a night of really heavy rain.

A beautiful day in the neighborhood. No houses in sight from our house, so I think we're good with social distancing here!
Good news was the roof didn't leak! Bad news was a tiny drip in a new place in the bedroom. Ah well, almost there. It may be that s shingle blew loose in the wild winds last night.

This vase had 1/2 inch of water in it yesterday--I am going to shove these branches into the ground and see if any of them root--but that rain overnight filled and overflowed the vase. That's a lot of rain.

Oh, and Happy Friday the 13th! Can't imagine anything worse could happen than already has this week.  A good story that reminds us of the importance of caring for others and not just ourselves is on my friend Bob Kanegis' blog today. Well worth reading. I have wondered why the President hasn't been tested, or many members of his staff including his daughter Ivanna. Or maybe they have been tested, but aren't saying so? I think it would set a good example for the rest of the country, to be tested anytime you think you've had contact with the disease.

Today is work on my presentation for tomorrow, and keeping up with virus news. Catching up laundry before the weekend, dusting, all the normal around-the-house things, and listening to the virus news. It's grim, but we will get through this. In a little bit I'll turn off the news and listen to my friend Jenny Allinder's new CD, beautiful fiddle music that's perfect for this spring day.

The first daffodils have finally opened, several weeks later than last year. It is a cheery sight to see their golden heads nodding in the breeze.

Yesterday I seeded my leeks in a pot indoors and hope they will sprout. I also re-potted my Christmas cactus and separated it into two pots. It was doing quite poorly, so I hope the new soil and new space will help. Also re-potted a few more aloe plants. Larry planted 3 fruit trees, a pear and two peach. My peach trees are almost all gone, and my pear is over 40 years old and not doing well. I have two more trees coming in the mail soon. All of these things re-affirm that life goes on, and that we continue to look to the future and past the troubles of this day.

Right now Larry is off to town for parts for his ailing truck and to pick up some toilet paper. Wish us luck on that last one! Honestly, I think that the run on toilet paper is just because this virus has scared the poop out of people! Just joking, of course, but one has to wonder when this disease does not cause the kind of issues requiring tp.

Probably no post tomorrow as it will be a busy day, so have a good one, and stay well.

  1. Sue, you are always productive! Is that forsythia roiting in the vase? I briught some quince in to see if it will root. Take care! Be safe of this virus!
