Covid Journal, Day 106: A Walk Through the Gardens

73 this morning, humid again, and the promise of a hot day ahead.

I have been thinking for a while of making a video of a garden walk-through--and then saw that Tipper at Blind Pig and the Acorn had done just that! So yesterday I took my phone for a stroll and recorded what I could. It's a bit rough and bumpy, but I thought you might enjoy it anyway. (Note to self: go a little slower and hold the phone still for longer!)

We grew our own plants this year, for the first time in about 5 years. I am pleased with the results, although it's taking longer to get tomatoes, squash and cucumbers because we got a later start--our plants were smaller and the ground stayed so wet we couldn't plant until late May. The dust you see on the plants is diatomaceous earth to discourage bugs. We've not used it before so I hope Larry applied it correctly.

I'll do another video later in the season to see what's happening in the gardens then.

Meals: I've been forgetting to write them down, so I'll backtrack and add the last couple days.

Sunday: breakfast--fried eggs, grits, tomatoes, and toast. Snack: fresh-made scones with icing. Lunch-cheese, crackers and apple slices. Dinner: leftover rice, pork chops, leftover green beans

Monday: breakfast--soft-boiled eggs and toast. Lunch--cheese and crackers, orange slices. Dinner--mixed the rest of the leftover rice with more rice, our canned salsa, chili powder, garlic, and a package of stir-dry veggies I froze last summer. Delicious! And now, we have more leftovers for tomorrow. It's becoming the never-ending rice bowl. Garden salad with this.

Tuesday: breakfast--fried eggs and Larry's homemade biscuits with elderflower jelly. Yum.

    1. Thanks Bill! Not as big a garden as some years, but the cellar and freezer are already pretty well stocked so we don't need to put up much this year.
