Bounty

64 this morning, cool and overcast.

Having a good stock of food on hand is nice when I am not feeling up to par. Yesterday, for example, we had a bacon, onion and cheese quiche with ham, all from the freezer, and sliced tomatoes from the garden for breakfast. For lunch we had vegetable soup from the cellar, and dinner was pork roast with sauerkraut from the freezer, with our own mashed potatoes and a salad from the garden.

Today I am feeling better, but after a trip to town I am tired. So Larry will be having kraut dogs for lunch with the leftover sauerkraut,  and I will be happy with some peaches from the cellar and some of that blueberry banana bread. Dinner will be spaghetti with some of our frozen ground venison and our canned pasta sauce, and broccoli from the freezer.

We don't eat fancy, but we eat pretty well, and I am grateful for the bounty our land provides.

  1. Roasted pork and sauerkraut sound really wonderful! Did you make your own sauerkraut too?

    1. Yes, I made it from our cabbage. I raised the cabbage plants too. Funny how all this we take for granted.

    2. So true. I made my own sauerkraut a few times and so much tastier and fresher than the storebought. Should make a batch soon!

    1. I was raised with a home garden, and of course back then, in the 50sand 60s, most women still cooked from scratch, so it's a lifelong habit for me.

  4. It seems that every day we pose the rhetorical question, "What will be have for dinner?" I think tonight it will be a shrimp stir fry because those on the ingredients we have on hand!
