The Good and the Sad

46°f and mostly clear at 7am, warming to 81. Breezy.

Got this done today:

In this county and state, there were many races where there were no Democrats on the ticket.  When I moved here, this was a strong union, Democratic state, but Ronald Reagan changed that, and now there are only a few pockets of blue in the entire state. So sad that we have little choice in the elections now. Much of my ballot was blank. Still, a vote is a vote, and we did what we could.

At least PT was good. I worked hard on the exercises yesterday, and it paid off in noticeable progress today. I didn't get to walk with the dogs today as after PT we went to Shari's for lunch, then went to vote.  We walked a couple blocks to the courthouse, and I was so pleased that I could walk the distance with no pain. After voting we stopped at the antique mall and straightened things up because we had sold a table. Then home, where I talked on the phone with a dear old friend for over an hour. She called to let me know that another friend from our storytelling days had passed away. I was so sad to hear that. Bizzie Vunderdink (her real name) was a sweet, funny, kind lady.  I searched my blog to find a photo of her, but found only this very blurred image.  I will always remember her joy in life, her humor, and her generosity.

Life is so fickle, isn't it. One leaves, and the rest of us muddle along somehow without them. But the memories remain, and for that I am truly thankful. Rest well, dear Bizzie. You earned it.

  2. My first thought was: Cute pic of you and YES for voting.
    Yes, every vote counts.
The next thoughts, yay for your improvement but, oh. Yes, people go now. They stay in our hearts only. I am sorry for your loss but wonderful you had a long call with your friend.

  6. I am at the age when funerals are getting to be ever more frequent. Putting aside personal grief, people live and people die - and that's really about all there is to it.

  7. I'm so glad the PT is going well. Three cheers on the walking! Hooray! And voting. I did mine before our trip. Now all we can do is cross our fingers and wait. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Seems like there is a lot of that going around lately. Hugs.

  8. When you get up in years, friends and relatives disappear. Sad and continuing to be sad, unfortunately.
Glad to see your voting sti cker. I wish I had a vote, but up here in Canada we just have to hope.

  9. Oh the poor old Democrats that haven't got anyone on your ballot! A shame. So sorry about your loss of your friend and storyteller.

  10. Sorry for the loss of your friend, but congratulations on walking without pain. I knew you would feel better once the healing started and the PT exercises strengthened the knee muscles. Good for you!

  12. What good news that you can walk without pain for a bit now! That must be a huge encouragement. Our family member passed this morning. I told her daughter that she'd left a wealth of happy memories for them all. She loved her family.

  13. It's so painful to lose a friend; I'm sorry for your loss. And I'm so pleased to hear that your walking is going well. We voted early, too, about a week or so ago, and I was surprised at how long the line there was. These are worrisome days; the political climate is scary, and I fear things might get worse. Hang in there, friend.

  14. It’s disheartening to hear about the lack of choice in your local elections, but it’s inspiring that you still did your part and voted. It sounds like you had a full day, and I’m so glad to hear about your progress with PT—being able to walk pain-free is a huge accomplishment! As a carpet cleaner, I know how rewarding it feels to overcome physical challenges and get back to doing everyday activities. I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend, Bizzie. It’s clear she left a lasting impact with her humor and kindness. Cherishing those memories is a beautiful way to honor her.

  15. I am surprised by the lack of Blue, but then I think that local elections here are not really party affiliated. People run or mayor or town council or whatever, but they don't identify with part.
