Then and Now

I turned up this old photo the other day, of our house in 1976 or 1977, not long after we moved in (August '76 was when we moved in; nowhere near finished).

Certainly looks different today. This was taken from close to the same spot. I am not surebenough on my feet yet to actually climb the hill to the exact place.

The oak siding, which was cut from timber from our land, was milled by a neighbor and has darkened over the years.

I still need to paint that window frame red! Every year for the past 3 years I have vowed to get it done, and, well, there it still is, white.

The trees in the foreground of the first photo were pines, and aome fell in the 2003 ice storm, the others in the 2011 derecho.

So much has changed. Trees have grown huge, porch, deck, rooms added, the cellar house and patio built...and me, a whole lot older.

  1. Looks like a fine house in a fine spot, and the dogs seem to agree.

  2. It's amazing how much a property can evolve over the years, especially the trees! We have spruce trees that we bought when they were as tall as our waists and now they tower over everything. Hope the knee continues to make good progress! -Jenn

  3. Actually I like the white around the window. It pops out with all the dark colors.

  4. It is so fun to look at old photos but nostalgic too. Our son is moving into the house he grew up & we've built a little granny house out back. When we moved I found pictures from 1989 (the yr we moved in) & the early 90s. The biggest changes are the trees...oh my how they've grown.

  6. It is always interesting to see how much the trees grow when you do not even notice. We planted some pines on our old property in '87 , they are incredible now, towering over 30' tall!

  7. How fun to have these two photo's from the same spot. Gives you great perspective of your home, and the story it tells. Well if you get around to painting your window trim red, be sure and take another picture. I think that would look very nice.

  8. I like red and that would make a nice trim. So many things change right before our eyes and we don't notice it until you look at old photos like you did. Hope you continue to improve.

  10. Some great improvement indeed. We have but a condo, yet my Brother has a house with garden and can and does all kinds of stuff!
