photo tour:
I liked these doors. The hotel, built in 1847, was a stagecoach stop in its early days.
This is the rear entrance, which takes you in through the tavern.
You can't see it under the spider webbing stuff, but there is a cast bronze sculpture as a finial on the balustrade.
By the elevator on the second floor. Antiques and vintage furniture and art are everywhere in this hotel.
In the downstairs hall is a large portrait of Grover Cleveland, our 22nd and 24th President, who stayed at the hotel overnight in 1900. The hotel registration, which hangs beside the portrait shows his signature and that he stayed in room No. 6.
There is an outside courtyard attached to the tavern. We went out there for a bit in the evening. A nice space, and it has this small performance stage where they sometimes host live music. No such luck when we were there though.
Our room was huge! Two double beds, a table in the center, loveseat, beautiful bathroom, and best of all a fantastic view of the courthouse and the main street. It was noisy, at least for us country pumpkins, but I knew that would be the case if we stayed in town, and I didn't mind. Being right in the center of town is a complete change from our usual quiet nights!
More tomorrow.

...this sure ain't Motel 6!
ReplyDeleteNope! And it wasn't expensive either.
DeleteGlad Larry found the brewery and that hotel looks terrific. Like staying in a museum!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! History was everywhere.
DeleteYou found a treasure in that hotel.
ReplyDeleteWe did. I would like to stay there again sometime.
DeleteLooks like an interesting trip!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, and so much to see. We should have allowed more time.
DeleteThose old hotels can be quite beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree, FG. I prefer them to newer places and am always happy when I can find, and afford, an old, historic lodging place.
DeleteLarge hotel rooms are uncommon nowadays, unless perhaps you are upper income.
ReplyDeleteUpper income we're not, AC! We'll, you know that. This room, taxes and all, was $168. More than i would usually want to pay, but I wanted the ability to walk everywhere, and its history really caught my interest.
DeleteYou stayed in a beautiful historic hotel. A President stayed there! Plus it was a stagecoach stop. Sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteIt was, Terra! Just my kind of place.
DeleteSuch history and beauty!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect combination, and a reasonable price considering it's in the heart of Amish country during their busiest tourist season.
DeleteThis hotel looks just your style. I would like staying there, too.
