Summer Solstice

June 21

Holly King regains his throne,

druids dance and crowds cheer

as the Sun shoots a golden path

into the gray center of Stonehenge.

No such noisy celebration here:

only cardinals busy at the feeders,

gardens green and complacent,

only lilies, pink, orange, red and yellow

turning to the light,

only me on the steps

to greet the King

on his triumphant return.
