SantaCon

21 and light snow. Just flurries almost all day.

Last night we had our Christmas gift to each other: a night on the town in Marietta, Ohio. The event was a pub crawl, sponsored by, of all things, United Way. Seven pubs, all offering special Christmas drinks, were part of the tour.

I got tickets online, and reserved a room at the historic Lafayette Hotel,  which is right downtown and was actually one of the places on the crawl.

We have never done anything like this, and we aren't big mixed drink people, but gosh it was fun.

The drinks offered were so varied, and all centered on the Christmas theme.

My favorite was the Partridge in a Pear Tree, I think it was called. It was a mix of sparkling white wine, pear vodka, and something else I have forgotten. It was light and dry, and the pear flavor sure came through. I forgot to take a picture of it, sadly. The most creative was the Ornamentini, which was a cranberry martini served in a clear glass ornament.

This was offered at the same place as the pear drink, a club called 740 Social. This was our favorite of all the places on the crawl, and the most unique. It was a long, narrow space in a row of storefronts. You walk first through a patio, then a room like a lounge, then a hallway, and finally arrive at the bar in the back.

This place also serves an amazing brunch, I have read, so we will have to go back sometime to try that.

The funniest thing to happen, though was when a young lady took a photo of herself and her friends and posted it on Facebook. We were in the background of the picture, unknowingly.
At the next pub, the young lady asked Larry, "Is your name Larry?"

How did she know? Well, she is Facebook friends with our granddaughter Hannah, who saw the picture and commented, "Oh my gosh, that's my grandparents!" Even 70 miles from home, we still managed to run into someone who knew Hannah! I swear, the girl knows everyone.

We woke up this morning to see this:

A perfect end to our trip. A stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast,

then home in time for our grandson Jared to come over for a Granny-cooked breakfast. It is such a joy to have him home from California for a short time. He and his brother Logan came over the other evening, so I feel like I have had some good, quality time with him.

We had a great time, doing something completely different for us. Would I do it again? Probably not, but it sure was a much needed break.

For the rest of this afternoon,  we'll, this pretty well sums it up:
