Friday Stuff

61°f,about 16°C, raining.

More and more blooms!

Big storms yesterday evening followed a very warm, humid day. We even had a few bursts of hail.

Hail used to be a rare occurrence. Many years we had none at all,, but this is the third time already this year. Which makes me wonder what the year holds. The National Weather Service says to expect somewhat more precipitation and higher than normal temperatures,  which I suppose is better than last year's drought and extreme heat.

Yesterday was booth day, but a lighter one than usual. Sales have slowed, probably due to people's uncertainty about the economy. Slower sales mean reduced need to restock. Afterwards we had pizza at a fairly new restaurant in our area. It is out in the country, in a beautifully renovated old building. We sat on the patio under an umbrella and enjoyed the cool breeze. About their pjzza: it is the least greasy I have ever had! You choose toppings or can order one of their specialities,  and the price is very reasonable. It made a nice break after working.

Then we stopped by the grand opening of this year's farmers market. It was packed, with about 20 vendors selling everything from jewelry to massages to baked goods, jams, quilts, and plants. No fresh produce yet. The new location is an empty car dealership lot, so it was plenty hot, no shade except vendors' pop-ups. Last year heat was a problem too. The market was in a grassy location, but still no shade. So, since the market happens at the hottest part of the day (4-7pm), we will probably not go when the temperature is too high. It's a shame, and I wish they could find a more comfortable location.

We made it home in time for Larry to mow and me to plant more flowers before the storms hit. I had picked up a DVD set of a show called Due South. Do you Canadians know it? I'd be interested in your opinions! I watched the pilot and thought it was pretty funny.

When I went to bed, I found these guys on  my rug: they sure hate each other!

  1. I think I have some vague memories of Due South, but I don't think I was regular viewer.

    That pizza looks pretty great.

  2. Great looking pizza! Such buddies by your bed! Love seeing your blooms! Yes climate change is happening, with all of us not knowing what will happen next, especially as soon will be hurricane season again. I put all my potted plants in secure places on railings last night expecting 40 mph sustained winds, but our bit of storm (that time) wasn't too bad. It however kept me up until the wee hours, with anxiety. I guess I need to prepare for that happening more these days.

  3. I looked up Due South and it looked very much like something that Tim and I would enjoy. Unfortunately, we cannot stream it. But I do see that it is available on youtube, and plan on trying to view it on television tonight. Thanks for the tip. We've had a great deal of rain in the last week, and I am so pleased that all the leaves have 'popped'. The mountains are green once again. I am grateful to see it.

  4. I will get JG to see if he can bring it in on his Apple thingie that I do not understand.
Hot venues. Yes, indeed. I once got caught inside an arena - the ice skating kind - in June. No ice, of course. We were on the floor. No air. It was really stupid not to put the fans on, but of course no one was there to do so. Horrible.
