Two Tired Old People

66°f, about 19°C, showers, clouds, so humid!

Ghost mural in downtown Ravenswood, WV, just up the street from the antique mall where we have booths. Somehow I never noticed this one before.

The antique mall is in the building to the far right, with the yellow sign.

It is 7pm as I write,  and we have been sitting in our recliners for an hour, both of us just too tired to move.

What have we been doing? Let's see, Friday we stocked our booths. Before doing that though, Larry ran into town to pick up a dresser from a friend while I stayed here and worked in the garden.

Saturday we spent the day at the No Kings rally.

Sunday we were on the road most of the day looking for a good used riding mower since Larry has given up on fixing ours, at least for now. It's been broken down for a week, and he has worked hours and hours trying to fix it before finally flying the white flag.

We did find a mower eventually, after a misadventure when the GPS sent us far into the Ohio countryside to the home of a very nice man who wasn't selling any mowers. We had a nice chat anyway, and finally found the guy we were looking for, and a mower we definitely were NOT looking for--piece of junk, it was. But we had another to see, and I knew very quickly that it should be a good one.

This guy's garage was immaculate,  as was his house, yard, and truck. He took care of his stuff, and the mower he was selling showed his attentive care. We didn't quibble with his very fair price, but as we were loading the mower into the truck he noticed Larry's t-shirt and asked me, "Is he a veteran?" I said yes of course, Vietnam vet. And this man handed me back $50!
Amazing.

Since we were $50 better off than expected, we took our tired selves out to dinner for a belated Father's Day celebration. We were joined by our neighbors Jeff and Tamara and had a really nice time.

Today was back to work. We have rented another small booth in a new little store opening up in our closest town,  so today we had to get it stocked. We had already loaded the van on Friday, because as we stocked our other booths, we pulled things for this new space. It wasn't hard to put together enough to get it started.

Still needs more work. We need a tall shelf and more smalls but it's a start.

So after 4 very busy days, we are both just tuckered out. I have made myself a cranberry mimosa with the cranberry juice I canned last winter and I plan to watch a few more episodes of Upstairs, Downstairs (rewatching after many years) before I trundle off to bed. Larry has had a beer and is already making going-to-bed noises.

Tomorrow, as they say, is another day. I just hope it will be a bit slower than the last week has been!

  2. Glad to learn you missed the bad weather in other parts of West Virginia. Sounds like a long and fruitful but tiring day. Rest well.

  3. Tired here, too.
What a wonderful gesture to give you back those $50 back!!! And those nice chats "for nothing", too.
I think we don´t have the booth-concept here. I only know second hand-shops and you have to be open Monday to Saturday. Either books, or clothes or furniture...
To a nice, calm Tuesday for you (here it will be another too speedy webinar).

  6. Wows, yes-sir-ee! You all sure have been busy, and I'm happy about the new mower for Larry, who did give it the good try to repair the old one...not to mention your dinner being served thanks to his having served...pardon the double meanings.

  10. I'm excited to hear that you've started another booth! More pictures of neat things!! I'm trying to find (online) a piece of furniture for a particular spot and purpose in my tiny kitchen. I'm determined not to buy a piece of new junk, but it's hard going when I can't drive around to barn sales and second-hand stores. I bet if I could get to your booths my only problem would be which one to pick! Hope today has been nice and restful :)

  11. You certainly get a lot done. No wonder you're tired. Good that you finally found a mower that hopefully will work well ( and for a long time).
