One Thing to Another,

47°f/8.3°C, cloudy, more rain in the forecast after a very rainy day yesterday.

but all good things. Yesterday started with my PT appointment at 9:30am. Larry, poor guy, went out to breakfast while waiting for me (while I had a couple pieces of toast on the way to town. Not fair!).

Afterwards we dropped off a couple boxes of stuff to Goodwill and took a quick browse through the store which was quite fruitful: a chest of drawers, a vintage globe to sell, and a metal rolling toolbox for Larry, all for $35. The chest will need a little gluing and clamping and I will probably repaint it as the paint on it needs freshening up, but it is good wood and won't be a difficult fix.

Then to Ravenswood to tidy the booths and add a couple more totes of stuff. We were home before 2, and I got back to work cleaning, this time finishing up in the living room and starting on the kitchen. either is still that one high shelf of Blenko glass in the living room which I hope to do today with Larry's help.

I left at 5:30 to go back to town for a ceramics paint night. I have never been to one of these, but this time the project was a ceramic Christmas tree. I thought it might be fun, and i like those trees--have a few already, actually--so I signed up a few weeks ago.

Here is my tree, pre-paint. There were several possible things to paint---snowmen, a church, three sizes of trees, and about 20 people there to take part. My tree is the medium size one. You can see the small tree behind it. No one opted for the large tree, apparently.

Our instructor, Cheryl, offers these classes on a regular basis at different locations. Her classes are often held at our favorite hangout, WV Artisan Market, which is where this one was. I got there with just enough time to order an iced coffee, which ended up being my dinner.

The smaller table of painters included a family group.

My table, where I sat across from a few people I knew, and beside a lady who drove up from 40 miles away, seated 12 people. There was one other table with a few people too.

This is my neighbor's tree. Not my taste, but different! Behind it is a snowperson, also done in pink, by a young lady who is soon to be married.
She turned out to be the granddaughter of my friend Linda, who was seated beside her, as was Linda's daughter. Linda's went to school with my sons. It often amazes me that I have lived here so long that people who were children when I came here are now grandparents! But a lot happens in 50 years.

My finished tree, and behind it the tree completed by my friend Barbara, who is a preacher's wife. Hers had a silver base. Different! While mine was a more traditional color scheme.

I need to spray it with gloss polyurethane,  then add the little lights and the lighted base, which I also painted.  All parts were included in the cost of the class.

I finally made it home in the dark through a drizzling rain, by 10pm. It was a long day, but a productive one, and I can't wait to finish up my tree to add to my "forest".

My oldest son and his son arrive tonight for hunting season, and we have apple butter making tomorrow. Good times ahead!

  1. Those ceramic trees are so pretty, especially when the little lights are glowing. A long time ago - maybe 40 years! - I made christmas tree ornaments in a ceramics class and gave them to my then-little niece...I wonder if she still has them but I won't ask just in case she'd be embarrassed to say she doesn't! I still give children an ornament each year so they will have a little personal collection when they go out on their own. Now it's my Occasional Helpers kids.

  2. I'm surprised that you have any energy for all the things you do if a few pieces of toast is breakfast and an iced coffee counts as dinner. Have fun making apple butter.

  3. I think sticking to the traditional colour was best in this case.

  6. Sounds like a fun night. I have a ceramic tree like that that neighbors gave me and I treasure it. I have had it long enough that it’s back in style now.😁

  7. What a lovely tree! I have some evergreens with snow on their limbs (some composite) that I have for seasonal decoration. No lights though.

  9. What a day! That's huge. And your "tree class" was wonderful. I love what you did and glad everything was included in the fee!
