It's been a squash day--- as in processing the rest of our winter squashes for the freezer. Not a fun job, bymut it is so nice to have these all mashed and ready to heat for dinners later. I guess we kinda make our own convenience foods here.
I am working on the little 3-tier table I have been painting, too, as well as having long chats with granddaughter Kate, whose baby is due on Tuesday, and with my son Derek and good friend Melanie. Last night I talked with granddaughter Haley, who told me her new dog brought "poopsicles" into the house! That was a new word for me. I laughed so hard at her description of what happened, but I am glad my dogs don't do this!
I wanted to share 2 young musicians who i think are strong voices for our times, and both from Appalachia. Check them out. I think you will find they ars the troubadours for these troubled days. We need many more like them. They give me hope.
This is MonRovia:
And this is Jesse Welles:
It's supposed to be below zero again tonight. Brrr.

...keep the music playing.
ReplyDeleteWe need it more than ever!
DeleteJesse Welles - this generation's Bob Dylan.
ReplyDeleteYes. I have been following him since the pandemic. He has a way of saying what we're all thinking.
DeleteI'm not going to ask what poopsicles are. I can imagine!
ReplyDeleteGreat songs.
We are under a cold warning again. I really felt it when we were out today.
ReplyDeleteWhy not just line the oven bottom with a piece of aluminum?
ReplyDeleteI should have done that! Hindsight is usually 20/20. All cleaned up, but a lesson learned.
Delete-19C?!!! OMG I write to you from 35C/95F...
ReplyDeletePoopsicles, ewwww, LOL!
Started to liten to the first one but we have limited data...
Sending some warm temps over!
Oh you are in Perth already! Enjoy!
DeleteBruce Springsteen also has a timely and moving protest song.
ReplyDeleteYes, I listened to Bruce's song yesterday. We need the artists who speak up!
DeleteI'm so glad you got some candy roasters! I've been eating acorn squash for a change this week because friends shared from their garden.
ReplyDeleteI keep calling them honey roasters for some reason, lol! They didn't do as well as they might in a different location, and if we didn't have a drought, but I think they taste fantastic. A new addition to my garden!
DeleteNew to me artist. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJesse is really moving up fast. I saw a video of him singing with Joan Baez and some other well-known artist. He's quite a voice today. People call him the new Dylan, and the new John Prine.
DeleteThat reminds me -- I need some squash. Yes, we're -2 right now. Still early but still.... Thanks for the music. I liked them both.
ReplyDelete2°here this AM, so a heat wave! But supposed to get much colder this weekend.
DeleteFantastic!
ReplyDeleteI've heard these songs and so many others by artists that are speaking out against the horrors of the current administration. Thank goodness for them!
ReplyDeleteGreat to have cooking delicious squash done. I enjoy new music/musicians. Keep warm my friend!
ReplyDeleteNew to me musicians. I really liked MonRovia. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your squash.
ReplyDeleteOur butternut squash aren't keeping well this winter--not sure why. Most are the standard Waltham variety, with a few bush type and a new to me seed supposedly geared to southern gardens. Tasty as they are, there's no really easy way to prepare them. I've never tried roasting whole. I sometimes half them lengthwise, scoop out seeds and roast on a cookie sheet to save mess. Husband prefers them mashed with butter and maple syrup. I like cream of squash soup made with coconut milk. I usually have to consume the entire batch over several days.
