30°f, this morning, -1.5°C, clear all day, temps rising to 57°f. Doors open!
We are finally almost done with the bedroom painting, just a few things to finish up---put Larry's mirror back in place, re-hang some (but not all) of the artwork, hang the curtains...all small things. We won't put all the art back because getting it down to clean is just getting too hard. Not that we're getting old! Just, well, we are getting older. I asked Larry the other day, "Do you realize we are almost 3/4 of a century old?" He looked a little startled at that idea.
My side of the room; Larry's isn't quite finished. I have had this dresser since I was 17, and it was old then, made in the 1920's or 1930's I think.
Today was all about cleaning: getting bits of paint cleaned up, mopping and waxing the floors, cleaning the window and mirrors. Since I was doing floors, I went ahead and did the rest of the house and the front porch too. Larry slid outside to get away from the housework, got out that new-to-us electric pole chainsaw and did some tree trimming which really needed to be done.
It has been a glorious day and I hated being inside most of the day, but I am glad to see this project finishing up. Tomorrow will be another beautiful day, but we will be on the road to Huntington for Larry's echocardiogram. We have still been on regular time, not adjusted yet to DST, but boy we better be on it tomorrow as we need to be on the road by 8am.
One aggravation today: a Facebook group started talking about problems with bills from WVU Medicine, which has taken over almost all hospitals and medical services in the state. People are getting notices of overdue bills when they didn't know they had bills due, and some even getting sued. I figured I had better check my online account with WVU Medicine, called MyChart, just in case I had bills finally showing up for my knee replacement
Sure enough, there was a charge sitting there for $123.72, that i had never gotten a notice for. Nowhere on the website could I find what the charge was for, except that it was related to my last doctor visit, which was just a routine six-month checkup. So I called the office to find out why a visit that usually cost a $20 co-pay had suddenly cost do much more.
The office couldn't tell me! They don't do thr billing, they explained, and gave me the number for the billing office. A call there got me a very nice lady that told me the charge was the "clinic fee" which is charged if the doctor does not own the building but uses WVU's clinic. Now, my doctor has been in this building for years, but now suddenly patients have to pay a fee to see the doctor there? The poor lady on the phone also explained that billing doesn't happen there either...so where does it happen? She wasn't sure.
I am not done with this. Tomorrow I will call my insurance company, and also find out just where and who does the billing. Because this is beyond ridiculous. If this is indeed a charge that will happen going forward, then my doctor will not be seeing me for these "routine" checkups. I won't be going in unless I am really sick. I hate these visits anyway, to just sit there and have her tell me I'm okay. I kinda knew that going in! I like my doc a lot, but not enough to pay $123.72:to see her for no reason.
Enough rant for today! I hope you are all well, have had no rude surprises, and have had the same lovely Spring day we have enjoyed here. Til next time, friends!
Ugh. So time-consuming, the medical billing run-around. But the alternative of leaving oneself open to sudden unplanned charges or late fees is just a headache postponed. I do resent it, though!
ReplyDelete...wait until Trumpy Dumpy gets done with our medical system!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with hoe physically capable you folk are. I am not that much older, and I can't even think about doing the things that you do. As for the medical situation, it works differently here, so I have no advice. I don't see doctor bills or hospital bolls for that matter. Other medical things such a dental or physio are a different kettle of fish, however.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely dresser! The weather over here has been really nice and warm...yesterday afternoon has reached to 17C!! Today we are back to 2C again..I guess Spring ain't really arrived yet.
ReplyDeleteWell done with the bedroom, looks really good.
ReplyDeleteWell, I´m with Tom. Just read a German article about what Trump does without going the correct way, all the institutions he closes and Musk seeing into business-data he should not be able to see, corruption was mentioned and also he can see private people´s data - it is scary what happens in your country.
We here in UK moan about our health system but we don't have bills to pay thank goodness.. You're both so good painting, we don't do it ourselves these days.
ReplyDeleteMedical billing is complicated and confusing in the best of circumstances. I have sometimes found that there's a miscommunication between the provider and the insurance company that I have to resolve before it gets paid. It sounds like there is more going on than that. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your painting job! Turned out great! I don't think I would attempt that anymore. Good luck hunting down that charge. I hate when they do that and you don't know why...
