New shoes! I thought I better get a photo before I grubby them up, so snapped this yesterday evening. I love the colors; there are Merrell's, which I bought on eBay as new without a box. The first pair I ordered came with one shoe a full half inch taller than the other! They had to have been someone's special order or something. So those went in the trash after a full refund because the seller, a very nice person, had not noticed this oddity!
We are having beautiful warm weather, and the grass may need mowing soon. But not yet! I refuse to start that routine until April. I look forward to this season although I do love winter. A commenter on a Facebook group said this, which perfectly sums up why I love the cold season:
"...winter has become a time to slow down, to reconnect, to think of it as, a time to do things indoors, to learn new things, to give myself permission to renew and connect with my family. I also add lights and candles to every room in my house. My husband and I started trying new recipes, baking home made breads, trying new restaurants and coffee shops..Just being present, together, holding hands again. He loves winter and now I am learning to love it too! We rewatch favorite movies and TV shows with the kids and I started a new hobby (painting), I also do a lot of reading by the fireplace, while waiting patiently for spring and the sun to shine bright again. Finding contentment within the walls of my home and with my love ones."
I guessing am sinking into that same feeling today, coddling myself a bit by wearing a sundress instead of work clothes, making my favorite flavored coffee (not with that syrup stuff, but the flavored beans), sorting out my earrings, picking dandelion greens, and sitting out on the porch with the dogs. Today is the annual auction sponsored by the local high school's FFA club (Future Farmers of America). We usually go and it is a lot of fun, but today I just don't feel like going anywhere. Some days, self-care is important, and this is one of those days.
I took more photos of the gorgeous blooming pear trees. What a delight they are!
Of course, to take the top photo of the little tree (this is its first year of being in full bloom!) I had to go out on the back porch, where Larry works on furniture. The mess was so appalling that I ended up spending a half hour or more picking up the hundred or so things he dropped on the floor. Now the big trash can is over half full, cords are tucked away, tools are on the workbench, containers of nails and screws are back where they belong, and things are generally organized a bit. It is frustrating to see the mess every time I go out there, so I try to avoid it as much as possible! There is still much to be done, but at least i can walk safely out there...for now.
Now I am back in my rocker on the porch, drinking my warmed up coffee, and getting back into that hygge feeling. I think another cup of coffee is in order, actually.
Have a lovely day, friends.
Lovely, I can just picture you on your rocker on the porch! Sometimes gently gently is the perfect thing.
ReplyDelete...be well and enjoy your spring.
ReplyDeleteThose are the exact shoes that I’ve just started wearing again after the winter — but that I won’t be wearing for the next few days because it snowed heavily last night. I wear shoes down quickly, so I try to get a new pair every year, or close to it. I look forward to getting out my very newest pair, which are even more colourful than these. But I shall await warmer weather for that.
ReplyDeleteAren't they comfortable? I hope I can keep them clean enough to wear to town for a while. I have two sets of shoes...well, three actually. Work around home shoes, town shoes, and summer sandals. And boots, of course.
DeleteI love spring, but I also like the quietness of winter and seeing the shape of the trees without the leaves. Having lived where there were not 4 distinct seasons, I feel very lucky to have them now. There's something refreshing for our brains that happens with every change.
ReplyDeleteThe shape of trees, yes, that is a good way if putting it. I also like seeing the distances that are hidden when the leaves are on. And the monochromatic colors, all soft grays and browns and dusty whites...and the the pristineness of snow.
DeleteSometimes, the best gift that you can give to yourself is simply the gift of nothing. I'm glad you treated yourself to that.
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly. Like you, thoygh, I stirred around eventually and got some things done, but it was a day of doing what I felt like, and not what I had to do
DeleteNice shoes. I know what you mean by shoes getting grubby looking pretty fast. Especially this time of the year. Your blooming pear trees are lovely. Do they attract a lot of bees? Or is it too early for bees to be about? I was outside all afternoon and I didn't notice a single one, now that I'm thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteMy husband makes his mess in his shop, thankfully, because he also is not tidy!!!!! I have this urge to grab a broom when I look into his shop door but my efforts are not encouraged.
Yes, there is some little bee-like thing out there, not sure what it is but it must do a good job because if the blooms don't get frosted the big tree is loaded with pears. Enough that we grind them up to make cider! I am excited to see what the new tree will bear. I can't even remember what variety it is.
DeleteGlad that you at least got some sleep. Dogs barked for some reason...enjoy your coffee and spring!
ReplyDeleteYes, the dogs know their job, but I was glad to get them quieted down.
DeleteSeeing Spring creeping in under winter's ragged old coat is a pleasure indeed!
Sounds like a perfect use for your Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWarm temps are in our future but not today.
It was a nice day, Marcia. I did end up doing some things, but didn't jump into anything major.
DeleteWe had three beautiful days here this week, but we need some moisture before things start to green up. Very dry here!
ReplyDeleteWe are finally getting some steady showers today. Thank goodness!
DeleteHope the rocker on the porch continues to be satisfactory...it sure sounds nice. Cool shoes indeed! Comfort is key! Your pear trees are lovely...here the first Bradford ones have turned into leaves already.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful we didn't plant any Bradford pear trees,Barb, lovely as they are. They have become a weed tree here, taking over entire fields. Such a shame, because they are so pretty in Spring.
DeleteI like those shoes! I think I need to treat myself to some new ones with lots of colour. My plain black ones re SOOOO boring. Icy ice storm here all weekend, so I didn't go far, just did some art and had a go at doing my taxes.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the ice! I dread those kinds of storms more than any other. I hope all is well by today?
DeleteGood to see those trees with lovely blossom. Spring gets hijacked a little here and there, but never gets totally off course. Much to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe you are only one state away but so far ahead on the blooming trees. We might see some in April, but probably late. I am loving your new shoes! Happy shoes make for happy feet and that makes the whole body happy!
ReplyDeleteYes, only Ohio between us, but that's many miles actually. It takes us about 5 hours to reach the Michigan border, and I think you are far north of that?
DeleteI just love these shoes. I had a pair of red ones, well, actually I bought that same red kind 3 times, I liked them so much. Can't find them now, sadly.
We have no blooming trees here. Not yet. But I saw some snowdrops and crocus...and today I saw daffodils which was cheering.
ReplyDeleteSpring is on its way then!
DeleteOh, and Merrill shoes are a good walking shoe.
ReplyDeleteYes, I usually have at least one pair of Merrills I the closet. Those and Vionic are my go- to shoes, but would like to try Hoka too.
DeleteI, too, love your new shoes but it takes more than I want to give to tie my laces these days. I'm thinking about those shoes advertised everywhere that is said you can just slip on without even bending over. But the price is too high and I don't trust the claims anyway. Yes, winter (even in Arizona) can prompt many things, most of them inside, but I'm always thrilled to see Spring arrive. Today, we got our first (observed) finch at our bird bath while I was sitting quietly about 8 feet away! Yay!
ReplyDeleteUmbrella, actually, I have these tied so that with a long shoehorn I can just slip them on. Works for me, but probably wouldn't be a good idea if I was to try walking long distances in them. I do this with all lace up shoes.
DeleteI love the blossom. How weird about the shoes with different lengths!
ReplyDeletecheers
sherry
Those shoes were so weird, Sherry!
DeleteThe blossom trees are lovely. Your new shoes look comfortable and practical too:)
ReplyDeleteThey are great, Rosie. When I work at my booths I am on my feet and walking for several hours, so I need good shoes. Both stores have concrete floors, which as you know are so hard on feet and legs.
