Rain At Last

66°f/18.9°C, cloudy and raining.

Finally, we have had some good rain overnight. What relief it brings, to us and ro the earth! It is odd how stressful days and weeks of no rain can be. It is like waiting for a guest that never arrives; all the food dries up, the kids get dirty,  other plans get put on hold, and everyone is on edge trying to figure out when normal life can resume.

The rain has brought down many leaves. I do not think this will be a very colorful autumn, as the drought caused many trees to start dropping leaves, and other leaves just turned brown. But we shall see. I hope that the rain predicted for today and tomorrow will stop, or at least slow, the spread of EHD among the deer. We have, I think, lost 3 of the 4 that hung around at the top of our driveway. The Department of Natural Resources says 505 confirmed infected deer have died in our county, but I am sure the number is much higher, as they can only count ones that are reported and that they test. Our 3 would not be included, as they are somewhere out in the woods. Only their absence and the circling of buzzards makes us believe they are dead. The numbers in surrounding counties are even higher. So perhaps the rain will flush out the pockets of stagnant water where the infecting mites breed.

Thank you all for your comments on my post about Haley's wedding.  I posted only photos of our family, but Desiree's family turned out in equal numbers too, and the girls had many friends there, one who came all the way from Hawaii, and several who have been Haley's friends since childhood.  When Haley makes a friend, she keeps in touch with them. Ivwish sometimes I had done the same when I was younger, as so many people who were important to me once have faded out of my life.

It is cozy in here this morning.  Dark and wet outside, but in here the lights are on, my tea is hot, and my daily puzzles await, so I'd best get to work on them!

  1. Oh, I missed yesterday's post and so just finished looking at it now. What a happy event! It's great to see so many celebrating together! We are having rain right now and I'm so glad that I won't have to go out and water my plants today!
So sorry to hear about the deer. I didn't know about that.
