Slow Saturday

68°F/20°C, partly cloudy.

The morning light today was quite something and I wish I had taken a photo. Long, slanting and golden, with shadows and leaves drifting down. My head has been so stuffy it is hard to enjoy mornings right now, but with some nasal spray from the doc I am hoping it improves.

So I was off to a sluggish start, but finally got in gear enough to sort out three big shelves in the linen closet, resulting in this pile for the thrift. One more shelf to do, but it's the lowest one and with my stuffy head I just couldn't. Maybe later?

Next up: vegetable soup, to use up bits of assorted veggies. It does smell delicious! My head is apparently clear enough to make note of the fine odors drifting from the kitchen.

That may well be the sum of my day today.  Yesterday was more than full, and I am feeling it today.  I might get thenporch mopped though. The dogs have tracked it up thoroughly after our rainy few days and it looks terrible.

I started listening to a new book, American Vikings, on Spotify. I have only gotten through the first chapter, but it was interesting to hear the origin of the name "Viking"; it was a verb originally, to go "vikking" (phonetic spelling of how the reader pronounced it), meaning to go out on an adventure basically, not necessarily marauding. And the horn helmets seem to have been an idea that came about in the 1800s, with the real helmets probably winged. Interesting how history gets impacted by legends and myths and fiction. My husband often refers to things he has seen un movies about some historical event and I have to constantly remind him of the liberties Hollywood takes with facts.  Often I am on my phone, fact- checking, as we watch such movies. I find it annoying when the true story is just as fascinating,  or more so, than the Hollywood version.

Well, off to hang out laundry, or I shall be bra-less tomorrow, and that might be a shocking sight!

  1. I have been slowly (v-e-r-y slowly) cleaning out closet shelves and reorganizing what's left. Does my heart good to see more space.

  2. Sometimes we'll watch a TV program called Lucy Worsley. She checks the veracity of various historical events and shows just how the original story has been changed.
I hope that vegetable soup will help your stuffed head. ( Sorry, that sounds a little 'off')
