40°f/4.4°C, clear. Full moon last night.
What a moon she was! I shot this on the fly from the van window.
Woke up on time, I thought, to be out the door early for my doctor appointment. But I had forgotten to reset the clock, so we were actually up an hour too early, 5am! Well, that gave us time for a leisurely start to the day. We left in good time for my appointment, all the critters fed (dogs, cat, rabbits, chickens).
But about 5 miles from home we realized we had a very flat tire...and the spare was back at the house, because Larry had taken it out last week when he loaded the van for the booths. Our Toyota van does not come with a spare---they have those run-flat tires so supposedly no spare is needed (they lie!). We have hauled this one around since 2014, through 2 other vans, and never needed it until now. And it was back at the house.
No problem, I would just call my son Derek, wake him up to get the spare and rescue us. Except there was no cell service where we were. There was a house right there, though (and a very nice garage). So I ambled over and knocked on the door. I don't know about you but a stranger on my porch at 8 am would make me a little nervous! I had known these people over 40 years ago though, and thankfully she remembered me. I used her landline to call Derek, who fortunately answered an unknown number because he was waiting for a call from a furnace repairman.
Back outside, the lady's husband had come out and was helping Larry jack up the van. They were having a fine old chat too! Derek arrived with the spare, and we found that both front tires were worn down to metal on the inner side where you couldn't see. The rest of the tire looked fine. So weird. So after more nice visiting and catching up saw--the lady had come out too---we went back home. I called and rescheduled my appointment, made breakfast for Derek, and then we went to town to get tires. Almost $500 later, all was fixed, except that we need to get a front end alignment because that is what caused the odd wear.
We went to lunch at Shari's, visited with friends there, then back home where Larry finished brushhogging the area he's been working on and I listed things on ebay. By then it was time to leave for the open mic at Shari's, which we both enjoy. I was asked to do something again this week since there weren't but three other people signed up. So I dug through my memory and did Rindercella (a spoonerized version of the classic tale), a West Virginia folk song that included audience participation, and the old funny Irish song The Sick Note. Great fun.
Finally back home, Clyde was yowling and so hungry but once again refused the chicken and rice. I found some roasted chicken lunch meat I had bought last week to make sandwiches for our trip to Huntington, and that cat tore into it! Three BIG slices later he was finally satisfied. Today I go to my rescheduled appointment so we will buy some "fishy" cat food, as many of you have suggested. Thanks for that idea!
So that was yesterday. A long day, some good things and some bad, but all in all? I think it was a pretty nice day. Just expensive!
