32°f/0°C, mostly clear, high in the 50's.
We made a little road trip along the
Ohio River yesterday, to pick up these two chairs.
And came home with 5 more.
We already have two
vintage "cracked ice" formica tables, but finding vintage
50's-60's dinette chairs like these in good condition is not easy. And if we can put together a nice set, they usually sell very quickly, like the red set we sold Saturday. So it's worth a little driving to get them. They need a good cleaning, so that's my job this week. One of our tables is small, so the two chairs will go with that one, and the others---well, 4 of them that are in good condition---will go with the other table.
Of course I had to take a few photos along the way. This is the railroad bridge just above
Gallipolis, Ohio, where we picked up the chairs.
There are several
power plants along the river in this region. This one always makes me smile because years back, I had granddaughters Haley and Hannah with me one day and we passed this plant. The girls were excited by the steam coming from the
cooling towers, and I told them it was a power plant. "No way, Granny! Daddy told us it was the
cloud-making machine!" And so it has remained in my mind!
A sad old place, it has certainly seen better days
This house is in better shape but could use some love. I wonder how it is inside? Is the woodworking still original, or has it all been "modernized"?
Perhaps not the best place for the
Scenic By-Way sign! The drive really is lovely...with a few not-so-pretty places.
It was a beautiful day to be out, and an easy drive through the countryside.
