Squashes and Music

-2°f/-18.9C, clear and sunny and rising to 22°f as I write.

It's been  a squash day--- as in processing the rest of our winter squashes for the freezer. Not a fun job, bymut it is so nice to have these all mashed and ready to heat for dinners later. I guess we kinda make our own convenience foods here.

Quinn, these are the honey roasters I grew from the seeds you sent! They did not get as gigantic as some photos I have seen, but these are a nice size. I pricked them with a fork and roasted them whole. Now they are cooling, to be scooped out and frozen. The only problem with this method is that they dripped all over the oven! Very smelly. Fortunately the bottom of my oven lifts out for easy cleaning.

I am working on the little 3-tier table I have been painting, too, as well as having long chats with granddaughter Kate, whose baby is due on Tuesday, and with my son Derek and good friend Melanie. Last night I talked with granddaughter Haley, who told me her new dog brought "poopsicles" into the house! That was a new word for me. I laughed so hard at her description of what happened, but I am glad my dogs don't do this!

I wanted to share 2 young musicians who i think are strong voices for our times, and both from Appalachia. Check them out. I think you will find they ars the troubadours for these troubled days. We need many more like them. They give me hope.

It's supposed to be below zero again tonight. Brrr.
