It rears its ugly head
when least expected--
weddings, graduations,
funerals, places
where families gather
to celebrate, witness, mourn.
Unexpected, old hurts surface,
scabs torn loose by razored words.
It is ended, but never over.
There is no explaining to the children
who get splattered by the bitter blood
of aged wounds still fresh with gall.
Hmmm... what can I say? Tension has no home in those of us with light souls. I can't blame you one bit.
ReplyDeleteThe legal side is one thing--but once married, it's rare for the connection to ever be truly severed. It's the big surprise of divorce--no marriage is really over if there were children from the match. So we fmble on, trying to make life events comfortable for all, while wishing the other one would just...go...away...
ReplyDeletebut it's not fair to expect that either. And if he/she did, that would be wrong too, because all parents need to stay invovled. No easy solutions.
