  1. Lovely. Thank you for saying it so well.
Please put war on your new year's fire . . .

  2. I will, Mary. It's been on my fire every year since 2001.

  3. A beautiful poem and thoughts - maybe one day it will come true.

But human beings have many lessons to learn - mainly to accept each other as being culturally different. Humans are constantly competing with each other. And when they don't get their way, their default behavior is to be aggressive.

Never, in the history of the world, has a war been waged that was not because of greed, power, money, dominance, or religion. Not one.

During the War Between the States slavery became a main focal point only after Gettysburg. The initial cause was mainly due to industrialization in the North, high tariffs placed on the South, and a race for a more powerful, centralized government - in other words, a struggle between the federalists and the anti-federalists - and unbeknownst to most people, it continues to this day.

(Here's an example - the Auto Bailout. Many say they were denied because of the GOP - not just the GOP mind you, but the Southern Republicans. How to End the South's Economic War on the North Michael Lind thinks that the South needs *a third reconstruction*)!

No matter how strong a nation is, or how well written are the laws (US Constitution) there will always be 'men of design' - those who plot, divide, spread hatred and fear, sow contempt among neighbors, and who will attempt to control the nation's populace - often by any means necessary.

Much could be said here, but I'll cut it short -

Many problems are brewing in the US. Every year, on Dec. 31st, I light my candle and hope that things will turn around - no more war - anywhere - but I don't think it is meant to be. Again, the nature of man is aggression.

I think it will get worse here before it gets better. What the outcome will be, I don't know.

The funny thing is that I don't feel fear for the future - only dread.

For now, in this moment in time, the silence of the American people is more terrifying than anything a politician can scheme up.

Politicians don't fight wars - rather that is left up to our sons, husbands, fathers.
