A Hot Night on the Ridge

The sun was setting as I returned home from today's three performances. The color of the sun attests to what the day was like--hot, hot, hot. 96 degrees to be exact. I was glad to be inside cool buildings or my van all day and felt sorry for the men I saw working on roads, roofs and bridges. Just not fit for man or beast.

The heat was one thing, the humidity another. We had a sudden shower yesterday evening and although the temperature cooled, it felt like a jungle outside. Everything was steaming, and breathing was difficult. This morning we were greeted with heavy fog, another result of the shower.

The cloud in the above photo looks like a thunderhead but no rains came tonight. Instead, the sun seemed to pour liquid heat over the earth. We've thrown in the towel on outside work until the weather moderates. I hope it's cooler where you are!

  1. Just a "cool" 89 here but still too hot for me, cousin. Still better than the cold, wet summer we had last year though.

  2. That's too hot for me too, John. I'm happy when it's 80 or below. July has never been my favorite month, and this one reminds of why that is so. I don't mind August-the evenings cool down and the mornings stay cool longer too.

I hope it cools down by the time we come to visit :)

  4. Granny Sue: I was out all afternoon yesterday in 95 degree heat and worse humidity. I hope I never have to do that again! I'm getting too old to be outside in this kind of weather, and I was in the shade, too!
