Breakfast

One of the perks of this time of year is breakfast.



With eggs, tomatoes, and apples in abundance, and fresh pork from our recently processed hog, we are indeed "living high on the hog." Not that we eat like this every day! Bacon and sausage are once a week treats, and the eggs are usually soft-boiled. Fried apples (made with olive oil, honey and cinnamon) are also an occasional treat. And of course, the fresh tomatoes will soon be just a summer memory.

But for now, it's nice to see food grown here on our land (or close by, in the case of the meat) being the predominant items on our table.

  1. Looks so good. Any time we have a real breakfast it's a real treat as we generally just have coffee, toast and juice for breakfast.

  2. Ohhhhhhhhh now I'm hungry. Looks delightful - but that plate - it is the cutest thing ever - what is the name of it. Oh right, like I need to look on ebay for more dishes. LOL But I really can't resist gingham whenever I come across it. It is so nice that you can grow so much of your own food.

  3. JoAnn, the plate is Judy Ironstone, from Sears and made in Japan, so I'd guess it to be pre-1990? I found it at GW and like you, I cannot resist gingham check. They only had the one plate, but it's my favorite right now.

  4. Janet, breakfast is our biggest meal most days. Usually we eat around 9:30, then lunch/dinner is at 4. Veggies in the evening if we're hungry, which we usually are not, and sometimes something light around noon if Larry is hungry. But we do like a good breakfast!
