Storytelling: Working on Work

Spring seems to have definitely arrived, although the redbuds are just coming into bloom, which means, according to old-timers, that we could still have a "redbud winter," meaning a frost or freeze--and the same holds true for blackberries, although these vines are a long way from blooming yet. But the pear is fast shedding its blossoms so that it looks like snow whenever a breeze stirs. So pretty.

I was happy to hear from the West Virginia Book Festival that they have accepted my proposal for a session on ghost stories and ballads for this October's festival. This is certainly a busy year for me with lots of variety.

Right now I am studying and preparing for an upcoming workshop on wildflower folklore for the Wildflower Arts and Nature Festival at Beech Fork State Park near Huntington, WV on May 4th.  This is a relatively new workshop for me so I have lots of work to do to be ready, but I have wanted to do something like this for a long time and I am excited to have this opportunity. I have a few weeks to put it all together, so there is plenty of time. The main problem is what flowers to choose--there are so many, with such interesting folklore and stories. I love the theme of this festival, and really looking forward to being part of this new event.

So back to the books I go. I hope all of you are enjoying some weather as lovely as ours--it's just marvelous to be warm again.
