68 this morning, muggy and cloudy. Rain came later, then hot and humid. Ugh.
Posted this on Facebook, but thought I'd share here too:
Today we brought home a Sellers cabinet to fix up for re-sell. I love this thing--still has the sifter, slag glass panels and ALL the inside shelves and racks. Only thing missing is the tambour (roll-up door like a rolltop desk).
This belonged to the seller's great-grandmother, who ran an inn on Doolin Ridge in Wetzel county, West Virginia near a community called Silver Hill, back in the days of horse-and-wagon.
She said, "Many a piecrust has been rolled out on that porcelain top."
Such a great backstory. Our job is to get it back into good shape for the next baker. I can't take a photo because we've store it away until we have time to work on it, but I'll post photos when we get started. I want to find out more about the former owner. It's too good a story to leave her anonymous.
And this is why I love what we do. The stories, the history, and the quality of craftsmanship.
