Covid Journal, Day 288: Junkin', and a Surprise Visit

46 and cloudy, with little misty showers as the day progressed. Not too bad for early January. Winds yesterday knocked a few things around, nothing important, but some pretty impressive gusts.

Today was road trip day. I bid on several--read that as a lot--of things in an online auction, and won several--read that as a lot--of them. The pick-up site was about 2 hours away, so we packed coffee and lunch and headed out early this morning. Now the van is packed full, so I will have a big sorting and pricing day tomorrow. Thankfully, I've already taken down the Christmas decorations so have time for this job. I'll have to post photos when we get unloaded and unpacked.

As it happened, the pick-up place was in the same town where our gradndaughter Haley just bought her first home, signing the papers last Thursday. I'm so proud of her. She's only 24 and already more than able to support herself. She's currently full-time with the Army National Guard, working in disaster response. I sent her a text to see if she'd be home but didn't get a response so we figured she was on duty. I wanted to see her house anyway, so we called our son to get the address and found our way there via Google.

And she was home--what a surprise for us, and for her when she saw us on her porch! Her little house is lovely; it's 100 years old but was just recently completely renovated. It's perfect for her, and her big German Shepherd Captain, of course.

So a nice day, a chance to get out a little and to see Haley again, and her cute new house. This year has started off on a good footing, I think.

  2. Sounds like a very nice day and fun to find your granddaughter home! Does the auctioneer's crew gather your purchases up together or do you have to go around and find them?

  3. I bet Haley loved your visit. She must be very proud to be a homeowner at only 24! Good for her. I am happy for her.
Have fun sorting all your treasures!
