Covid Journal, Day 334: Icy

29 this morning. Snowing lightly. It rained all night.

Today we continue to be ice-covered. It rained all night, freezing on every surface. All night we listened to trees and branches crashing down. Thankfully there is little damage here, just a mess of branches and twigs to clean up. The deck is the worst with several large limbs on it from the big maple just in front of the house. We had a little scare when we got up and saw a branch on the windshield of the van. Fortunately the glass was fine.

Even though ice hangs from everything the road is clear of downed trees, and is our driveway. That was a huge relief. Memories of the 2003 storm had us expecting to have to cut our way out again. That time we had to start at the front steps and cut our way all the way to the road, where we joined neighbors to cut our way out of the holler, about 4 miles. Everyone worked on it so the job was done within a few hours.

We are without electricity of course, no surprise but no real problem either. We ha

ve plenty of supplies and plenty to do. It is still snowing lightly and will be the same tomorrow so we don't expect lights to be on for at least a day or two. But we are fine, and hope all if you are the same.

  1. So glad there was no serious damage. It sure makes for a long night, listening to wind howling and branches coming down.
